The members of the Council of Management submit their report and the financial ststements of the
Forum for the year ended 31 tlecember 2024.
Structurn. Gov8rnance and Management
The Adelphi Genetics Forum {Ihe Forum), was incnrporaled as a ¢ompany limited by guarantee on
the 15th Novemb8r 1926, and was registered with the Charity Commission in 1960 with whom its
registration number is 209258. The goveming do¢ument of the Forum dated 24 May. 1961 was
replaced duriro the year by an amended Art￿e$ of ASsocial￿n which was adopted by a special
resolution passed at a General Meeting of the members held on 20 March. 2024. On 21 September
2021 the Gatton Institute Changed rts name to the Adelphi Genet￿S Forum.
Obl8¢tlves and Activitles
The Forum exists lo promole public understanding of the s¢ience of human heredity., ils historical
developm&nl and its impact on cognate disciplines. The principal means of achieving these
objectives are the holding of an annual conference, the publication of the Adelphi Review,
SFX)nsorship of relevant conferences. publication of bcoklels on topical themes in the biosocial
sciences, publication ol occasional books. travel bursaries for research students and t
maintenance of a web site.
Publlc Benellt Statement
When planning the activities the Trnst&es havo had regard to the Charity Commission's Guidance
on the public benefit of the Fowm's activrties in particular the advancement of public education in
appropriate areas of knO%￿edge.
Conferen¢•s and Publlcaeions
During Ihe year the Forum of9anis8d a large (xx)feren(x with a number of gu8st speakers at the
Royal Society on Ihe 16 October 2024. entitled Progress and challenges implementing genomics
into practlC8 and sociely. The FONM also hekl a successful teachers. conference in June 2024 in
Manchester. This was the ftfth free conference aimed at updating secondary teachers, knowledge
of genetics. The Fornm published four issues of the Adelphi Revtsw during Ihg year.
Grant Awards
The Forum makes small grants for conferences and workshops and rt currentty budgets £8,000 for
such gr8nls each year. Up lo Iwo Junior Scientist Travel Fellowships leach being £750 in lolall are
also available and are CO•$ponsored with the Genets'cs Society. The availability of grants is
advertised on Ihe Forum's website. Each application is reviewed by a committee of Trustees and,
Subjecl lo the availability of fvnding, approved if the proposed conference is expected to further the
Forum's aims.

The Forum is supporting a three year PhD studentship at the Department of Genetics. Evolution and
Environment at University College London on a topic related to the Forum's aims. This is entitled
'Removing the population concept fr(Mn evolutionary genetics. and is supervised by Professor Mark
Thomas. Dr Adrian Timpson and Dr Adam Rutherford.

The Forum plans lo hdd its annual conference at the Royal Society in the autumn 2025. This year
it will be entitled Popu18tion Genomic Screening- Explfflng its Complexit￿s. The Forbjm will publish
further issues of the Adelphi Review in the year.

The nel income for the year before gains arMI losses on investments was £9.504 and the General
Fund al 31 D8¢ember 2024 amcNJnled lo £4,506.770 compared lo £4.396.314 al 31 December 2023.
Realised and unrealised gains of £100,951 arise because of the inuease in market value of the
investments that ar8 managed by the CCLA Fund Managers.
Reswv•$ pollcy
The Forum's policy is to maintain suffiuenl reserves lo ensur& that it is able to meet 11$ running costs
from the return on its investm6n15 Wrthoul relying on aither subscriptions or external fund-raising.

The Council has assessed the risks lo which the Fofum 1$ exposed 8nd is salisf*d thal systems in
place are adequate lo miligale those risks that would threaten the long-lerm survival ol Ihe
Forum. The Council is content that other risks should be actepted because the cost of mitigating
them would be unacceptable.
Recrultment of Trustees
New Trustees are generally •JenIrf￿ and proposed by existiro Trustees.
Use of Volunteers
The Forum does nol primarily (ary out its activities Ihrwgh Ihe structured use of vdunteers. Some
Trustees contribute a ￿rge amount of time to the Forum in addition to their dutie$ as Trustees.

Statement of Trustee's Responslbilitles
Company law requires the Trustees lo prepare financial statements for each year which give a true
and fair view of the affairs of the company and of its financial position al the year end. In preparing
the financial staternenls the Trustees should follow best practice and select suilable ac¢ounling
)licies and apply them consistently. They should make judgements arKI estimates thal are
reasonab$8 and prudenl and prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless il is
nappropriale lo presume that the charity wll continue in operation.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping a¢￿Ints'n9 records vthich disck)se vmth reasonable
accuracy the financial position of the company and wh￿h enable them to ensure that the financial

Adelphi Genetics Forum is a company limited by guarantee. and a registered charity. The
registered office is at 19 Northfields Prospect. NOrthf￿Id5, London. SW18 1 PE.
Basls of preparatlon
The financial stslemenls have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP IFRS1021
Accounting and ReFthing by Charities.. Statement of Reccwnmended Practi￿ and applicable
United Kingdom law and accounting stsndards.
Th& Forum meets the d8finitM)n of a publ￿ benefft entty ur¥Jer FRS 102.
The financial statements have been prepared under the his1￿￿tal ￿$1 convention, with the
exception of investments whi(* are included at market value. and in accordance with applicable
accounting slandafds.

The Council of Management considers that Ihwe are no material uncertainlies about the charity's
ability to continue as a g)ing concem.
Incom•
All Ir￿ome is rec¢yJnised once the charity has enlitlemenl lo the ino?rne, it is probable that the
income will be received and ihe amounl of income re¢eivabF8 can be measured with sufficienl
accuracy.
Exp•ndStur•
Liabilities are recognised as resources expended as soon as there Is an oblsgalion
commrttirwJ the charty to the experKliture. All expenditure is ac?￿nted for on an accruals basis.
Grants payable are payments made lo third parties in Ihe fvrtherance of the charitable
objectives of the Fonjm and are authorised by th8 Counal of Managem8nl.
Charitable support costs have not been allocated lo specific expenditur?. A barge proportion of
these costs 8re a¢￿Unted for by work given freely by the Trusteos. To atternpt to cost thls
would be uneconomic lo any benefit oblained.

Govefnance costs are those cosls as￿lated v￿th meeting Ihe constilulional and statutory
requirements of the charity and include fees ol the Independent Examiner and costs linked lo the
strategic management of the charity. These have been allocaled directly lo charitable
expenditure.
Gains and losses on investments
Reali5ed gain5 and losses in the stslement of financial activities rep￿sent gains and losses by
the Forum on investments sold during the year. Unrealised gains and losses in the slalement of
financial activities represent Ihe net increase and decrease in the maikel value of the Forum's

Creditors and provisions are recognised W￿re the charity has a wesenl obligation arising from
past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds lo a third party and the amount due
lo settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors are recognis&d al thèir
selllemenl amount. Provisions have been calujlaled al the best estimate of the s8tt18menl
amount.
Flnanclal Instruments
The Charity only has finanrjal assets and finanoal l￿bilItIeS of a kind thal qualify as basicfinanclal
instruments. Basic financial inslrumenls are initially recognised at the transaction value and
subsequently measured al their settlement Val￿ ￿th the except￿ of bank loans which are
subsequently measured al amortised cost using the effective interest method.

Th6 Forum has overall control over and ultimate responsibih'ty for the assets of the Adelphi
Artèmis Trust {the Trusll. The latter tnJsl was estsblished on 17 July 1978 to administer th8 assets
of The Society for Constructive Birth Control Limrted which was liquidated al that time. The Tnjst
deed provides that the income and assets of the Trust be applied lo "preserve and prolecl Ihe
physical and mentsl health of peop￿. particulady bul Th)t only those from poorer communities by
assisting in the provisi￿ of fertility control and other measures to improve reproductive and
sexual health." The Fofum provides secfelarial arml adminislralive services lo the Trust for which
it is ￿1MbUrSed at costs.
The total amount of s￿h services in tho year was £7,946 {2023: £6.359).
Thè Trust's net income for the year was £25.262 incI￿1n9 £16,150 of unrealised investmenl

31 December 2024.

The Adelphi Artemis Trust (the Trust) is a registered chanty and a linked charity of the Adelphi Genetics
Forum (the Forum) which. on 21 August 1978, obtained recognition as a Trust C￿Oration (Article 8a) in
order lo accept responsibilty for this related charity. The Trust's original endowment comprised the
liqu¢daled assets of the Society for Conslruclive Birth Control Limited through which the Fofum had, for
period of eighteen year5, managed the Marie Slopes Memorial Clinic. As a resL¢II of the many changes in
the last four decades in social attitudes, socifreconomic CiTcumslan¢es, reproductive technologies and
medical knowledge and practice. the Forum's Council considered that the lime had come lo widen the
objectives of the Twst to enable it to play a more effective and wider role in the very different ¢ondilions of
the tsvenly first century, whilst maintaining much of the spiril underlying the original Trust Deed dated 17
July 1978. The Gallon Inslitute Artemis Trust changed ils name to Ihe Adelphi Artemis Trust on 18
February 2022.
The Forum's Councll comprise the Board of Trustees of this linked charity and, by order of the Coundl
(though not by Trust Deed) is committed lo spending only the accumulated income from the Fund. Th8
Forum provides secretarial and adminislralive service5 to th& Trust for which il is reimbursed al cost. The
Trustees ofthe Trust comprise the Officers ofthe Forum and the Council Members as lisled in the accounts
of the Forum. The Trustees receive no remuneratb)n.

New Trustees are generalty identified and proFosed by existing Trustees. New Trustees are given the
Trust Deed outlining their responsibilities.
Use of Volunto•rs
The Trust does not prwnarity carry out its activities Ihrwgh the structured use of volunteers. There are no
regular volunteers other than the Tnjstees. Some Trustees conlribute 8 larg8 amount of lime lo the Trust
in addition lo their duties as Truslees.

When planning the aelivities Ihe Twstees have had regard lo the Charity Commissioners 9uidance on the
public benefit of the Trust's activities in particular the advancement of public education and the relief of
povety as outline above.
R•vlew of the Trusl'$ activltie¥ and future developments
The nel income for the year before gains on Inveslments was £9,112 and the General Fund al 31
December 2024 amounted to £780,551 compared lo £755,289 al 31 December 2023. Unrealised gains of
£16,150 arose as a result of the increase in the market value of ihe investments that are managed by the
CCLA Fund Managets.
During 2024 the Trust sought applications for ils 2024 grant by advertising on the website and in the
Ad&lphi Review. Folkjwing receipt of applications and consideration by the Truslees they agreed to help
fund a further three year project. renewable annually. with CHASE Africa to improve access to family
planning services in marginalised. semi-arid. rural Communities in Kenya. The grant period ￿MMented
on 1$1 September, 2024.
