THE PROVISION TRADE BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION
{Registered Charity No. 209173)
Trustees, Re
ort for the
ear ended 31 December 2025
Ob"ectives
The Charity was established in 1835 to provide financial and other assistance to former members of the
Provision and Ajlied Trades who have found themselves in financially distressed circumstances. Our
objectives remain unchanged, but in recent years we have also been able to assist current employees faced
with unexpected financial problems. The Trustees believe that the PTBI meets Public Benefit Guidelines
because there are many employees and ex-employees of the provision trade, who could potentially become
beneficiaries.
Structure and Trustees
Committee of up to 12 Trustees, who are elerted at the Annual General Meeting. No Trustee receives
remuneration or other benefit from their work with the charity. The Committee meets every three months
to consider new Brant applications and all other policy matters. Day to day operation Is delegated to a part
time Secretary & Treasurer. Regular vislts to beneficiaries take place, usually conducted by our welfare
Vlsltor. During 2025 the duties of the welfare visitor were carried out on an interim basls by the Secretary &
Treasurer.
Activities and Achlevements
We offer financial assistance to past or current employees in the provision or allied trade5, or their
dependents. We help by Biving quarterly grants or one-off payments to assist with special purchases, home
improvements or everyday expenses.
In 2025 we continued to give one-off grants to meet a variety of needs including general livin8 COSt5 and
support in replacing household applian￿> We were able to keep the quarterly grants at the level of the
previous year.
We celebrated the charIt￿$ 190th Anniversary on 29 October 2025 with a lunch for tru5tee5 and 5UPPOrters,
which received coverage in the trade pre55 and enabled us to spread our message more widely. We continue
wlth our promotional efforts, and we plan to hold the inau8ural draw of the fundraising 190 Club in earlv
2026.
We endeavour to Snform relevant companles and organisations about the assistance on offer to eligible
clalmants.
Flnancial Review
Outgoings exceeded income by £11.5k, a reduction of £6k in the deficit compared to last year. This was
primarily due to a reduction in grant expenditure, although there were also slight Increases in income.
During the year £15k was taken from our investments. The stock market performed well in 2025.
particularly in UK equities- overall, the funds showed a return of nearly 7%. with the value of the investments
increasing by £50k to achieve a closing position of £993k.

We are very grateful for continued trade support and the generosity shown by our existing subscribers. and
we continue to search for new sources of income and regular subscribers. Trade dinner prize draws this year
including the biennial Bristol dinner raised nearly £8k.
The trustees receive regular (Jpdates from, and meet annually with. Charles Stanley. stockbrokers, who
manage the main investment portfolio. and we consider our investments and the income they generate to
be holdinE up well despite the uncertain geopolitical climate. The trustees deem PTBI sufficiently resourced
in the short and medium term to continue its charitable activtties.. The trustees bear in mind the continuing
need to increase the charity's income to be able to meet expenditure in the long term.
Reserves Poli
The charity does not hold specific reserves, as any welfare expenditure exceeding income will be covered by
liquidating the necessary investment holdings.
Trustees, Res
onsibilities
CharSty law require5 the trustees to prepare financial statements for eath financial year which give a true and
fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the surplus or deficit of the Charity for that perlod. In
preparing those financial statements. the trustees are required to:
select suitable accountSn8 policies and then apply them consistently;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent..
prepare financial statements on a going concern basis unless it Is inappropriate to presume that
the Charlty will Continue its business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accur3cv
at any time the financial position of the Charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements
comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also Tesponsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and
hence for taking reasonable steps for the preventlon and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
