The organisation is a charilable company limited by 8uarantee. incorporated on 7 December 1984 and
registered with the Charity Commission as a T¢gistu￿ Charity on 30 Nov¢mbcr 1962.
The company was established under a Memorandum of A&sociaiion, which established the objects and
powers of the charitable company and is governed uThl¢r its Articles of Association.

Th¢ current council members are as detailed on page l.
In accordance with the rules of the Society. a third of the members of Council retiTe each year by Totation
and Gan offer th¢mselv¢s for re-election at the Annual General Meeting. The Chairnian and
Vice Chainnan are eligible for re*lection at the first Council Meeting following the
Annll￿ General M¢¢ting.

Any new council members are given details of the rules and objectives of the Charity.
Further training is provided on request from th¢ Chaimian of the Charity.

ement
The Council Memb￿S have assessed any signifjcant risks that the Charity may be exposed to and have
taken measures to ensure any potential risks are minimised.
An Independent Security firni handles all the cash iransaclions on the Show day, and the council members
consider that this reduces the risk.
anisation Structure
The Council of the Society is responsible for the overdll management and control of the charity and
regular meetings are held. The Council is also grateful io the many volunteers who give their time to the
Society. In total this represents maThy hours of work which cannot possibly be valu¢d. but without which
the Derbyshire Agricultuial and Horticultural Society would not be as successful.
The Council believes that it is well placed to fillfil the objectives of the charity into th¢ firtur¢.

Ob'eclives and Activities
Th¢ charity is established for the promolion of agriculture, horticulture and rural traditions through the
staging of the annual Derbyshire County Show.
Th¢ Show is aimed at any and all members of the public. It is widely advertised in the City of Derby as
well as the surmunding districts and neighbouring Counties and the Show attracts several thousand
visitors who can s¢¢ many faccts of nwal h¢ritag¢ displayd. including animals, trades and skills.
The many exhibitors at the Show benefit from the chanrx to showcase their livestocK skill or wares to a
wid¢r audien¢¢ than th¢y may b¢ able to acc¢ss individually. while members of the public visiting the
Show are able to benefit by the gathering of many different goo(Ls. produce. livestock. attractions and
entertainment on one day at a family friendly evenL
The Show opens to Ihe ￿bliC at 8am and closes at 5.30pm. There is a rdnge of cattle. sheep, horse, dog,
rabbit, bird, horticultural and Young Farnier5' competitions held throughout the day and many of ihe
competitions are qualifying rounds for national competitions such a5 Crufis and the Horse of the Year
Show. Along with t￿'S there are many displays of vintage ll￿bInery, and tractors. Women's
Institute. hedge cutting and dry-stone walling. There are classic rides for children including a helter-
skelter and carousel. Refreshments are available from a variety of producers. There is as well a main ring
with a fijll programme of displays and entertainment. which has included JCB Dancing Diggers, Monster
Truck displays and The Yorkshire Volunteers Marching Ban(L and every year we also have a Grand
Parade of the prizewinning animals in th¢ afternoon.
The Derbyshire Agricultural and Horticultural Society operate as an independent charity.
Achievement and Perforniance
The 2023 show was a great success, the people of Derby, Derbyshire and the Su￿ound1ng counties cam¢
in good number and the showground was ￿1] of sheep and cattle. horses. dogs and a whole variety of
other exhibits and trade stands for them to enjoy.
The traffic was well managed ensuring the tlow of cars. vans and livestock transponers moved off the
road and into the car parks smoothly and the same company also handled the public coming through the
gales. Th¢ onlin¢ ticketing syst¢m worked a tr¢at. and the prcshow ticket sales were fantastic.
We aim to build on this system of allowing preshow online entries across the board and while we will of
urse continu¢ to take postal applications lo giv¢ cveryone a chance to enter, moving on it should be a
great way of saving time. paper and poslage.
We remain mindful to k¢￿ a tight r¢in on th¢ budgct to sustain the future of the show as many other
shows like ours have fallen by the wayside.
It Temains the aim of the soci¢ty to wntinue to hold th¢ D¢rbyshire County Show and try to build up our
funds to put the society back on a strong financial fo()ting tr) sustsin its future.

Basis of Preparation
Dethyshire Agricultural and Horticultural Socidy Limited is a charity in England. In the event of
th¢ charity being wound up, the liability in respect of the guaranlee is limited to £ I per member of
the charity. The address of the regislered o￿l¢e is given in the Charity infomiation on page 2 of
th¢s¢ financial statcm¢nts. The nature of th¢ charity's op¢rations and principle activities are the
promotion of agriculture. horticultu￿ and rural traditions.
The charity constitutes a public benefil entity as defIned by FRS 102. Th¢ financial statements
have been prq)ared in aC￿rdanCe with Accounting and Re￿)rtIng by Charities: Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable lo charities preparing their accounls in accoTdan¢e wilh the
Financial Reporting Standaid applicable in ihe UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on
16 July 2014 (as updated through Bulleiin I published 2 February 2016). the Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), thc Chariti¢s Act
2011, the Companies Act 2(M)6 and UK Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
(The charity has applied Update Bulletin l as published on 2 February 2016 and does not include
a cashfiow statement on the grounds that it is applying FRS 102 Sedion IA)
The financial statements are presented in sterling. which is ihe functional currency of the charity.
Golng Concern
The council members have a reasonable expectation that the chan'ly has adquat¢ r¢sourc¢s to
continue lo operate for the foreseeable future. On this basis they continue lo adopt the going
concern b&8is in the accounts.
Income
Income is received by way of donation5 and gifts atKI is included in full in the Statement of
Financial Activities when the charity has entitlement to the funds. The value of services provided
by volunteers has not been included.
Incom¢ from investmenls is included in the Statement of Financial Activities when receivable.
The Statement of Financial Aclivities included the nd gains and losses arising on Tevaluations and
disposals ihroughout th¢ year. if applicable.
Income is stated 8ross. except for rent income. which is offset against expenditure as the directors
consid¢r that th¢ publication of th¢ full infOrn￿tIon could be commercially detrimental to the
Society.

The Society is a registered charity and is exempt from Income. Corporation or Capital Gains Tax.
Value Added Tax
The Society is a partially exempt body for VAT pury￿SeS. Expenditure subject to VAT, which is
not recoverable, is shown inclusive of VAT in the financial statements.

Depreciation is pmvided at rat&8 calculated to write off the cost of each asset over ils expected
