## **Activities and achievements**

The Trust played a central role in launching and administering a Coronavirus Hardship Fund (CHF) for the islands, an initiative that was also supported by the Council of the Isles of Scilly, the Duke of Cornwall’s Benevolent Fund and the Richard Addison Trust. More than £30,000 was donated by members of the public, most of this through a GoFundMe campaign that was kindly set up by Charlotte Newton. Significant contributions were also received from Cornwall Community Foundation and from the Lord Phillimore Charitable Settlement.

About £10,000 of the CHF was distributed by the Council in the form of food vouchers or payments on account to local grocery stores. A total of 31 households from all five islands received varying levels of support, from £50 to £800 depending on the circumstances. Other payments have also been made from the CHF, notably to Bryher Shop for the fitting of safety screens and for vehicle repairs to facilitate deliveries to shielding customers.

The Trust continued its long-running tradition of distributing cash gifts at Christmas:

- a total of £3,500 from general funds was shared between 30 households

- a total of £800 from the CHF was shared between 13 households that had previously received support from the Fund

The Trust contributed £1,000 towards a feasibility study for a new Museum / cultural centre / community space on St Mary’s that was commissioned by the Council of the Isles of Scilly, the Islands Partnership and the Duchy of Cornwall.

After contributing a slightly larger amount for 2019-20 (£1,511.39) to cover the cost of routine inspections, the trustees returned to a flat sum of £1,500 for the Garrison Play Park in 2020-21. This marked the conclusion of the four-year commitment to support the Park that was made in Nov 2017. A review will take place in 2021-22 to determine whether to continue this support into the future.

The Trust received £1,000 from the Surviving Winter Fund administered by Cornwall Community Foundation. These funds were distributed after the financial year end so further details will be provided in next year’s annual report.

## **Public benefit statement**

The trustees have complied with the duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties.

## **Policy on reserves**

Under normal circumstances, the Trust will look to maintain a cash balance of £10,000 for immediate working purposes. Sums of cash in excess of £10,000 will usually be invested in an appropriate investment fund.
