ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charftable actlvltlès
The c*arity's main souro of income is gen8rated through invesknents. The incK)me rec8ived is used to
déterrnine the grants lo be made usually in May and October.
During the year, in pursuit of its humane objecAive$. the company made granls for chantsble purposes
arllounling to £161,90012022'. £165,OCQ).
Income from investments and deposits totalied £119,724 (2Iy22'. £134,403). Realised and unrealised gains for

exp8ndilure £737,189)
As 8 result of the ￿￿lised and unrealised investment gains mentioned above, the Ydlue of tre CharitI5
investments rose from £4.916m18st year to £5.458m at 31 D￿mber 2023.
Whilst markets struggled for muL* of 2023 a rally in markets towards the end of the calendar year. helped by the
belief that interest rates in much of the developed worfd had peaked, led to a strong rally in mafke15. US equities
perfomed particularty well, produung a total retum for the sterting based investor of 19.2%, whilst relLJrns for
ernerging mark&ts wèrè again relalively lacklustre, producing a total r&turn of 4.1%. Bond markets were also
more muted but after a long periDd of neg8b.ve relums producBd positive retums with the FT British Govemrnent
All Slocks index up 3.7%.
Against this background the fund rose by 8.4% gross17.7% net) whith was ahead of the retum for the average
charity in the ARC Steady Growlh Universe of 7.5%. Perforn)8n￿ was helped by hamro a 9ood weighting in
overseas ￿UltieS and in Pa￿'Cular in US equities.
Lwking fo￿ardS whilst there is plenty of reason lo be cautious the strength of markets towards thè end of 2023
hlghlighted the po￿￿lItY of markels recovering rf and when interest rates start coming down
