## **Annual Report** ## **of** ## **STOKE POGES HASTINGS COMMUNITY FUND** ## **2024** **(Registered Charity Number 206915 )** ## **ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2024 OF THE STOKE POGES HASTINGS COMMUNITY FUND** **THE CHARITY – The two charities merged in January 2011 to establish the above fund** ## **Stoke Poges Relief in Need Charity** **The Stoke Common Poor’s Fuel Allotment Charity originated in 1822 as a result of the allotment of common land under the provisions of the Stoke Poges and Wexham Enclosure Act of 1810 to provide fuel for the poor of the parish. The Stoke Poges Relief In Need Charity was established in 1991 following the sale of Stoke Common to South Bucks District Council in 1990. The Common had been a liability for the trustees but the invested proceeds from the sale provided an enhanced income with wider objectives for the relief of poverty. Stoke Common benefited from the greater resources that the District Council made available to conserve the rare heathland of the Site of Special Scientific Interest. In 2007, responsibility for Stoke Common was transferred to the City of London and volunteers have worked to restore it to its former state and help to maintain it.** **Approximately two thirds of the funds of this charity were endowed and the balance was unrestricted. Only the income from the endowed funds could be used for grants but the unrestricted funds could be used and distributed. Trustees decided to invest and use the income. The unrestricted part of the funds resulted from a bequest to the Charity by the late Frank Solari, the terms of which allow the trustees discretion to use or invest.** **More details of the early history of the charity are recorded in a booklet written by Lionel Rigby in 1974 ‘The History of Stoke Common’ – A Poor’s Fuel Allotment Charity’** ## **Lord Hastings Hospital Trust** **The Lord Hastings Hospital Trust was a long established Stoke Poges charity dating from 1557 when Lord Edward Hastings founded his hospital and almshouse property and from 1980 was governed by a statutory instrument no. 1790. Under the provision of the scheme, the power to build and operate almshouses was retained but the main work of the charity was the provision of relief in need as defined by the charity commission. The trust owned a 19 acre field in Stoke Poges (Hastings Meadow) which was let for horse grazing.** **The Governing document is a Scheme dated February 2011** **1. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES – The charity is for relief in need and can make grants to meet a great variety of needs. A note issued by the Charity Commission, which can be made available, gives examples of the wide choice in the sort of relief that can be given. We often help people with household** **goods, school uniforms, school transport and nursery fees. Clearance of debts is considered in certain circumstances. This often helps clients through a difficult period and a one-off clearance of some or all debts can enable them to manage their on- going finances. We do refer people as appropriate to citizens advice and debt relief charities** **2. CHARITY INVESTMENTS – The investment consists of:** **Charities Official Accumulation Fund with a value of £1,533642 on 31[st] December 2024** **COIF Income Fund with a value of £432516 on 31[st] December 2024.** **COIF Permanent Endowment Fund. Only the income from the endowed funds can be used (as stated above). The value was £219828 on 31[st] December 2024** **COIF Property Fund valued at £38515 on 31st December 2024** **The Charity also held £11698.50 in the COIF Charities Deposit Fund and £13153 in a Lloyds current account and £20000 in a Lloyds deposit account.** **Total balance £2,269369** **3. RELIEF IN NEED – In an attempt to find people in need, we have flyers at various places in the village and have a relationship with Stoke Poges School, We share an advertisement in Stoke Poges News with Stoke Poges United charity. We have a section on the Parish Council web-site and we have a Stoke Poges charities web-site, www.stokepogescharities.uk. Applications can be completed on line or forms can be printed or e mailed** **4. GRANTS. During the year grants were given to 7 people totalling £14564.** **5. TRUSTEES – The trustees meet at least twice during the year. During the year Saera Carter was nominated as a trustee and Catherine Smith was coopted. The one ex officio trustee is the Incumbent Vicar.** **6. ACCOUNTS – A Statement of Receipts and Payments for the year to 31[st] December 2024 can be requested. The income was £25218.
