Obje¢tives and Activities
The principal objects of the tmst are the pre5ervatiiM) and improvemeni of chutthes in Buckinghamshire. The
objects are achieved by making gTants avaiIable for the pUr￿Se of such presen•tion and improvement.
Grants are funded from the net income 2nd reserves of the tn]5t. The trust is reliant on inc0￿e froTn investJuenÉs
and various fund-raisino ¢vents including fimds raised by the Friend8.

Achievements a￿d Performance

During the year the trustees hay¢ r¢vicwed aDd updated the ￿riOuS policies and pr(ttdures including the
assEssment and management of risk ihe ivrthin the trusL The ordnt application prO￿s$ has bec￿ teviewed. All
policies alld procedures are subject io att annua] revÉew.
The investments beld by the trust are a]so subj¢d to regular Teview with a view to m&ximising income without
inctt2sing risk. As a result of such review during the lear the th]si reatxsed its boldino in the COIF Fixed
Interest Fund and in¥esied the proceeds in COIF Income Shares.
The trustees continue to make grdllts to vatious church¢s forpreservation project5 together with smaller
emergenc) fuDdingwts and grants to a$5iSt with the installation of alarni sl'stems to deteT the theft of roofing
aterials. Du]ing the year, the Iru5t made 18 orants to a I￿al value of £74,51M)
InvolY¢ment with the national"Ride & Stride"" ¢veDt raised a net figute of £1 1.620 which w'as an increase of
nearly £1,000 on the figure forthe previous vear.
The evenis organi5ed by the fi￿d-r￿ls1ng committee including the Feception at Chequers planned for larer in
2024 resulted in n¢t income durino the year of £28J61.

The FHends collect subscriptions from m(￿thers and raise moncy through OTg3nised evenls" other donations are
accepied from individuals and church¢5 to fvnher the work of the frust. Gift aid on subscrsptions and donations

The Friends had an excess of expenditure oyer incoEue of £757 which reflected an increased donation to the
main iThst of £7,000 (£5.000 in 20?3}. The Friends funds stcod at £4,941 at the year<nd (£5,698 2023).
Reserves Poliry
The trustees seek to maintain the levcl of reserves at such a level as to g¢n¢r4t¢ sufficient income to maintain
their 2nt making at a level that will provide M￿ning￿l support to church reswration projecrs. A% far a5 15
possible all SUTpIus incorne is Us¢d to fund grant makints in the &atne fJnancÈal ye￿.
Flowev¢r, the INstees will consider makin(F grants using fijnds from reserves where the awli¢alion is retarded
of being of excepiional merit or urgency.

The tI￿t has refeTTed to th¢ guidance c4)ntsined in the Charity Comfftission's general guidance on public benefii
when reviewinu its aims and objectives and in pla[￿illg future activities. In particular, the lrnst¢¢$ ¢On$id￿ how
planned activities will contribute to the aims and objeciives they have set.

The f￿$t eyejkt we arranged in 2023 was the first Friends, outillg to London sinte November 2019- it was a
visit to the Charterf]ouse Londo￿ olle of London's secret oems. On a perfect Spring Dav some 40 Friends and

tour. The Charterhouse, originalllr a monastery. I￿er became one of the very few surviving Tudor houses Tn
London. tn tbc carly It century the siie was bequeathed to a rnst for the establithrnent of a school (w'hich
relocated to Sutrey iti Ibe late cenwry). a lovely and unusual chapel, and what w&s knou￿ then ￿ a hospital,
i.e. an alms-house, for 40 Brothels (now open to women a8 well &8 men). Nowaday5 thue is also rented
acconhnodauon and an infirnw)..
The Friends A[￿lla1 Crawl held on what turned to be a perfect day in late Autsust when we visiied two
i centt￿ Churches, Si Mary Magdalene LAimer and St Mary Magdalene FlaundeT4 with lunch at the CJreen
Dragon in Flaunden in between. Once more the crnwl eKpertl) led by Liz Chalmers. Flaunden was the first
church to be designed bv Sir Ge0￿e Gilbert Scott while LatimeT w&$ subsrantialls, r¢d¢signed by him, both
Lllning churche5, b¢autifull) kept.
The 1&8t event of the year was the Friends Annual Lecture in N'ovember. a Fascrnating talk by the medieval
hisiorian John McNeill at St Mary's, Princes RisborollJo on Ihe intriguing 9ubject of things to look out for on
entering a church. The event was well attended- and live slreaTnang proved pop￿1#Ft0￿.
We were able to contribute £7.0￿ to the trusl to a55i5t with their wt making wOgra￿e.
We remain grateful io all our Friends for their CODtinued support throuoJout the vear.

I report in restEct of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out
under section 145 oflhe 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I
have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145{5){b) of the Act.
