Broms rove United Charities ort of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 December 2024 The trustees present their report Nvith the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 Dccembcr 2024. Thc trustees have adopted the pi"ovisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2019). OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectives and aims The focus of our activities remains the provision of social housing, the management and letting of lands belonging to thc charity and the payments of relief in need. The trustees confirm that there have been no changes in the policics adopted bv them to achicve thc objects of the charity during the ycar. In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. The Charity provides a public benefit by alleviating the burden on the community and the local authority by providing warden care to the needy at low rents. Volunteers The Charity is dependent on the services of the trustces who receive no remuneration or benefits for their services. ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE The trustees consider that the pcrfoi"mance of the charity this year has been satisfactory and they confirm that assets are available and adequate to fulfil the obligations of the charity. Occupancy of the accommodation has been good with void rents of only £2.217. As well as routinc maintenance continuing during the year. at Kathleen Field Court, kitchens have been refurbished and electrics updated. At Phebe Bell Court, kitchens have continued to be replaced as well as the lift being changed over to digital and bathroom I"efurbishments to flat 16. Also, thc boilers at Phebe Bell Court were replaced in the year. Fire risk improvemcnts have also been made to both properties. 42 Churchfields Road has remained an investment property and been fully occupied during the year. FINANCIAL REVIEW Investment policy and objectives The trustee's investment objective is that the real value of the assets be maintained, and enhanced over the longer term. The trustees receive regular reports on the state of its portfolio, and consider the performance to be satisfactory for the year. Reserves policy The policy of the charity is to hold accumulated reserves to provide capital for investment, which in turn provides income to meet costs as they arise, such as major repair costs. The Charity tries to maintain a break-even situation annually. Void Rents: During the year the chai'ity suffered void rents amounting to £2.217 (2023 - £3,985) whilst properties were empty. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMEN Governing document The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity. Its full objects are defined therein. The charity does not actively fund I'aisc. A copy of the trust deed can be obtained from the treasurer at the registered office shown on page 2. Broms rove United Charities ort of the Trustccs for the Year Ended 31 December 2024 STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Recruitment and appointment of new trustees The trustees are appointed by the Board of Trustees. The trust deed provides for a body of nine competent persons. being two ex-officio trustees, three nominated trustees and four co-opted trustees. The trustees have quartei'ly meetings at which a quorum of four trustees must be present, to agree the broad strategy and areas of activity for the trust, including consideration of gi'ant making, investment, resei'ves and risk management policies and performance. The day to day administration is delegated to the treasurer and the clerk to the trustees. Organisational structure The trustees delegate the day to day running of the charity to the Treasurer and the Clerk to the Trustees, Lisa Siembab. Ccitain minor rcpaii. items are then delegated to the Wardens. Major items "e referred to the Trustees. Bishop Hall's Charity for the Needy In March 2002, Bromsgrove United Charities took over the assets and income of Bishop Hall's Charity for the Needy and it is now administered under the terms and conditions of the Trust Deed of Bi"omsgrove United Charities. Induction and training of new trustees The board keeps the skill requirements for the trustee body under review and in the event that a trustee permanently retires or additional new trustees are required, the board will endeavour to reci'uit suitable new trustees. The induction process for any newly appointed trustee comprises an initial meeting, followed by a short meeting(s) to provide a brief history of the trust, copy of committee minutes, copies ot-prior years annual reports and accounts, a copy of the governing trusl deed and a copy of the Charity Commission's guidance for trustees. Responsibilities and basis of report As the charity trustees of the Trust you are I"esponsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requircments of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act,). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent exatniller's statement Since your charity's gross income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a listed body. I can confii'm that I am qualitied to undertake the examination because I am a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, which is one of the listed bodies. I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or the accounts do not accord with those records; or the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in thc Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
