PRESTBURY MEMORIAL TRUST CHAIRMAN’S REPORT JANUARY TO DECEMBER 2025
This year has seen quite a few of our longest serving Members pass away, move into care or become too frail to attend our activities. On a more positive note, new Members have joined and we currently support 112. We continued with our usual activities of shopping, exercise & scrabble, and outings; these are thoroughly enjoyed by all who participate. 2025 saw us move the sit and fit/scrabble group from the Library to Whiskers Café, the new venue has been very well received.
Due to rising costs which we could not justify, we were unable to offer our Christmas fish ‘n’ chip supper with Christmas lights outing and will be looking into new ideas for a future ‘festive’ outing.
We reached our primary fund raising target this year and were able to purchase a new (to us) minibus, which has been welcomed by both drivers and passengers. The replacement bus is now in regular service.
Lunch Club guests’ attendance varied between 31 and 43; the meals have been of a consistently high quality and enjoyed by all. Our Christmas Party, attended by 46, was highly successful. The children from Prestbury Primary School entertained and delighted our Members, and the WI prepared a wonderful afternoon tea. Many thanks to Cheryl Newman for reprising her role as a hard-working, present-giving, and very professional Elf.
We are very grateful to our Volunteer Drivers, and especially Anne Sterry and Pat Brown for their support in ensuring that our newly acquired and invaluable minibus continued to be available to our Members for lunches.
There have been no major works carried out on the Deep Street property during the year. To improve security on the drive, new Parking Notices were installed and a security camera set up.
57 birthday visits were made in 2025 to our over 80’s, a significant drop from last year. Angela Fraser resigned as a Volunteer, and we have welcomed Elspeth Metcalfe and Lucy Hawtin to the group.
Fund raising with a varied programme of activities raised £14,466 with the largest contribution coming from Prestbury Open Gardens, a biennial event.
The Quiz season raised over £2000 this year; our thanks go to Jane and all our quiz masters as well as the Royal Oak team. Produce stalls supplied by Penny are also most lucrative and our thanks go to her. For a second year we were the prime beneficiary of the Royal Oak charity week with funds raised in excess of £1500. We are very grateful to Matt ( the landlord) who continues to be very supportive of the Trust. PUC also helped us with some grant funding.
The 100 club remains stable, thanks are due to Sue for managing this activity.
Overall, it has been a successful year.
My thanks to the Warden, to the Committee/Trustees for their help and to all the Volunteers without whom none of the above would be possible.
