PRESTBURY MEMORIAL TRUST CHAIRMAN’S REPORT JANUARY TO DECEMBER 2024

Despite the loss of some members, we continue to support 119.

Outings took place in July and August. Many thanks to Simpsons for accommodating us for our very popular ‘Christmas lights with fish &chip supper evenings’.

Shopping numbers have seen a decline, but sit and fit/scrabble continues to be very popular.

71 visits were carried out by the Friendship Group.

10 Deep Street

The kitchen was refurbished, the floor was replaced and new blinds and curtains were installed. 10a Deep Street

A leak had damaged the kitchen floor, this was repaired.

The new tenants moved in to 10A on the 9[th] July. Some minor problems were identified and rectified. The new tenants have greatly improved the look of the garden.

Following a disturbance when damage was done to some signage on the drive, new ‘No Parking’ signs have been installed as well as a security camera covering the whole drive. There have been no further incidents.

The Lunch Club met at Simpsons for the first four months of 2024. Lunches were attended by between 24 and 39 members, whilst facilities at the WI Hall were replaced and improved.

For the remainder of the year we returned to the good lunches prepared by Wendy and her Team at the WI Hall. Attendance varied between 33 and 42.

Our Christmas Lunch was excellent and much appreciated. The Christmas Party, attended by 57, was very well received. The Choir from Prestbury Primary School entertained and delighted our Members again and the WI gave us all a wonderful afternoon tea. Particular thanks go to our Volunteer Drivers, who continue to do a great job supporting our Lunch Club and Christmas Party

A review of the year would not be complete without including the ‘near miss’ incident between two members in the WI Hall car park in August. The Risk Assessment undertaken following this incident resulted in some changes being made to support the continued safe operation of the car park, which were agreed by the Committee and confirmed to Members and Volunteer Drivers in a September letter.

There have been no major issues with the minibus this year, but as ever, there is a need for volunteer mini bus drivers. Hopefully this will improve in 2025.

Fund raising continues to be focused on raising monies for a new minibus with many contributors being specific in wanting funds to be directed to this effort.

A varied programme of activities raised £6,717 with the largest contribution coming from the Quiz nights which raised £2218. Extra funds have been raised from produce stalls at local events, including a Charity week from The Royal Oak.

We obtained grant funding from both Warm Cheltenham and Prestbury United Charities.

The 100 club has remained stable in its contribution, format and prize fund and thanks are due to Sue for taking on this challenge.

My thanks to the warden, to the committee for all their help and to all the volunteers without whom none of the above would be possible.
