PRESTBURY MEMORIAL TRUST

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT JANUARY TO DECEMBER 2020

The year 2020 has been very difficult for everyone and the Trust was no exception. Our activities had continued more or less unchanged in January and February, but we then had to completely suspend them after lockdown, due to Covid 19, was implemented on March 24[th] . As a trust we had already decided that we could not safely carry out our shopping trips or visits to deliver birthday cards and gifts. Other activities depended upon the use of outside venues which when they closed, meant we could do nothing. We also cancelled all the planned coach outings. We were, however, able to continue our 100 club draws every month as this could all be done remotely.

We kept in touch with our members on the phone; some were lucky and were being supported by their families but quite a number had been left isolated because family members could no longer visit, so we were particularly mindful of their needs for any kind of social exchange and practical help.

Although we were unable to provide regular shopping trips in the mini bus, our warden, Jennifer Roden, armed with the appropriate PPE, regularly helped with emergency shopping, collection of medicines and transport to and from hospitals etc. Without her stalwart efforts, Prestbury Memorial Trust would have ground to a halt.

When lock down was first eased in July, we resumed our mini bus shopping but with a maximum of 4 people only. This was warmly received. Our warden made visits to our members and sat in their gardens all the while maintaining social distancing, but providing much needed personal interaction. We have been able to maintain our presence in the parish of Prestbury and whilst we have lost members this year, as we do every year, we have not been able to recruit new members because of all the restrictions in place. This is something we will address in 2021.

My thanks to the committee for all their help in this most trying year and to all our volunteers without whom we would not be able to function.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO

THE PRESTBURY MEMORIAL TRUST

This report on the accounts of the Prestbury Memorial Trust is in respect of an examination carried out in accordance with Section 43 of the Charities Act 1993 of the year ended 31st December 2020.

Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and Examiner

As Trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirement of Section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 does not apply. It is my responsibility to issue this report on those accounts in accordance with regulation 7 of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 1995.

Basis of Independent Examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 43(7)(b) of the Charities Act 1993. The examination included a review of the accounting records maintained by the Trustees and a comparison of the accounts with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning such matters. The procedures do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent Examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

  2. *to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Charities Act 1993; and

  3. *to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records have not been met.

  4. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
