**Trustees' report For the year ended 31 December 2022**

## **Structure, governance and management**

The Gloucestershire Society is an unincorporated Registered Charity, which is governed by its Trust Deed.

The charity is administered by its committee of trustee members, who are appointed in accordance with the Trust Deed. The committee holds at least two ordinary meetings each year to discuss key matters and ensure the smooth running of the charity.

## **Objectives and activities**

The objectives of the charity is to provide relief from povety for people resident in the Gloucestershire area who are in need, in hardship or distress. The Trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.

## **Summary of main achievements of the charity during the year**

The Society this year continued to provide vital support to beneficiaries throughout Bristol and Gloucestershire, during a time when the pandemic accentuated the economic impact upon people living on the lowest incomes.

The Society had a successful appeal, with thanks, led by our president for 2022 Alick Campbell of Lochnell. Funds of £136,694 were raised during the year and £103,119 of grants were paid out to those in need, ranging from between £50 and £200 each.

The trustees were also very grateful for further restricted donations of £20,500 towards the end of the year to be used for the continuing efforts of the charity to provide grants to those in need. In early 2023 £20,000 of these restricted funds will be paid out. The further £500 will be paid out to help people with reference to the war in Ukraine, if it is not used for these purposes within a year then it is to revert to general funds.

The trustees are very grateful to all donors for their generosity during the year.

## **Reserves policy**

The trustees aim to maintain unrestricted reserves at a level of at least 9 month's normal expenditure levels. This is considered to provide sufficient funds to continue to provide grants to beneficaries in the event of a drop in income.

## **Financial review**

The detailed receipts and payments accounts are included on page 3. As shown in the accounts, the principle sources of funds were donations received during the year. The key areas of expenditure included individual grants and administration costs.
