The Board of Trustees present their report and the financial statements of the Highweek Charities, for the year ended 31 December 2023.

The Charity

The Highweek Charities consist of four linked charities: The Parish Lands Charity, Gilberd’s Almshouses, Highweek Relief in Need Charity and Highweek General Charity.

The trustees named on page 1 are the trustees of all the Highweek Charities for the purpose of the Charities Act 2011 and are also the Board for the purposes of the Housing Act 2004. The trustees carry out their responsibilities to the Highweek Charities collectively under the Name of "The Feoffees of the Parish Lands of Highweek".

The trustees named on page 1 have served throughout the year, unless otherwise indicated.

Trustees' Responsibilities in relation to the financial statements

The Registered Social Housing and Charities legislation require the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the surplus or deficit for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:

Charitable Objectives

The objectives of the charity are to provide financial help to the elderly and needy on the parish of Highweek, Devon as constituted on 30/03/1967.

Results, activities, achievements and future developments

The results for the year are set out in the financial statements on pages 5 to 7 and in the notes to the financial statements on pages 8 to 12.

The Charity remains well positioned to continue undertaking its charitable objectives in the current year.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINERS' REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF HIGHWEEK CHARITIES (No: 203004)

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Highweek Charities (the Trust) for the year ended 31 December 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent Examiners' Statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records;

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The Charity

The Highweek Charities consist of four linked charities: The Parish Lands Charity, Gilberd’s Almshouses, Highweek Relief in Need Charity and Highweek General Charity.

The trustees named on page 1 are the trustees of all the Highweek Charities for the purpose of the Charities Act 2011 and are also the Board for the purposes of the Housing Act 2004. The trustees carry out their responsibilities to the Highweek Charities collectively under the Name of "The Feoffees of the Parish Lands of Highweek".
