CHARLES DAVIS TRUST

Trustees Annual Report 2024-2025

The Charles Davis Trust have carried out the aims of the Trust according to the wishes of Charles Davis, a London business man, who died on 11 November 1716 and established this Trust in his will.

He wished to help the elderly people of Maidenhead, aged over 70 years, by inviting them to apply for assistance from the Trust each year. The successful applicants in those early years were each given a sack of coal to help them through the winter months. They are now given a Sainsbury’s voucher to help with their winter food bills. This is funded by the interest and dividends which has accumulated during the past year and drawn down from the Investment Company – in this case Rathbones Investment Management. The funds which are used today are as a result of his wise investment and generosity over 300 years ago.

During this year the Trustees were pleased to accept funds from the Samuel Lewis Charity as a result of this being closed (confirmation received from the Charity Commission). The aims of this charity were the same as those of the Charles Davis Trust, and the few remaining recipients were invited to apply to the Charles Davis Trust going forward.

During the year 2024-2025 the Trust received 145 successful applicants and they collected their vouchers whilst attending a service of worship at St. Mary’s Church in Maidenhead on 14 November according to the wishes of Charles Davis.

The Trustees have been pleased to carry out his wishes and will continue to do so in the years ahead.
