Objects and Pollcy The tharlty owns 22 flats at Ottery St. Mary (Almshouses). These are occupied by needy persons who are inhabhtants within the ancient parlsh of Ottery St. Mary or who are or have been asswated with the said parish during a part of their lives. Contrlbutlons are levied by the Trustees to a55iSt with the maintenance and heating and hot water of the flats. Due to the significant rise In utility costs, the contribution split has been calculated at two-thirds maintenance, one-third Ilght, background hea¢ and water. The Trustees continue to have regard to Charity COMMI￿On Leaflet number PB2 (Charitles f the Relief of the Pw) under 6•4hlch the Commiooners take the vlew that anyone who cannot afford the normal thlngs In Ilfe vthlch most people take for granted ￿￿Uld probably qualfy as 'poorf'. The Charity also has the power to apply up to one-half of its endowment income In relievlng either general or individual persons resident in the said parish who are In condltlons of hardshlp or distress by making grants of money or yovidlng or paylng for iterns or Servi￿ for such people. As the cost of repairing and maintsining the flats, providing servlces for these and the cost of insurance now take up a large proportion of the Trustees, income, they are unable to give muth flnancla1 assIstan￿ by way of grants and glfts. However, some small sums have been granteé to needy people In p￿ViouS years. The Trustees had also run a Day Centre for community use in a tlmber building erected at the rear of the flats known as Robert Hone House In Sandhill Street, from the 1970,5 untll 2025. Tris was demolished in Autumn 2025 to make way for the building of a purp)strbullt block of four x one-bedroom flats to Increase the Charity's housing strxk Lo a total of 26 unlts. The new acccmmodation will be ready for occupabon In Spring 2026. The DeveloFXYWIt has been funded from investments, a £20,000 donatyon for the Garfield Weston Foundabon and by interest-free loans from the Almshwse Association (£IOO,000) and the Quaker Housing Trust (£20,000) both repayable over 10 years. The Trustees, having regard to -Rlsk Asse55rnf as identified in "I￿antIeS (Accounts and Rewrts) Regulations 2008, continue to be engaged in Wematically consklerlng the parttular risks ￿lch may attach to the Day Centre and fiats. oTrc. Investment and Financlal Revlew The Trustees have engaged new financial advisers to advise regarding investments and have glven proper regard to the advice given and to the Trustee Att 2(KM). Under the temis of the ￿erne, the Trustees malntaln an Extraordinary Repair Fund for the purpose of providing extraordinary repairs or improvement rebuilding of the nats (Almshouses). The Charity has a reserves policy whlch is reviewed annually.
