Notes to the Accounts
Accounting Policies

a) Accounting convention These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis, together with a statement of assets and liabilities, under Section 42(3) of the Charities Act 1993.

b) Fixed assets are shown at cost. During the year, no fixed assets were purchased (2023 - nil). Costs incurred in adding value to the building are expensed in the year in which they are paid.
Freehold property
The freehold land and hereditaments were vested in the Custodian of Charity Lands by Order dated 28 August 1936 and therefore do not appear as an asset of the Charity.
Endowment Fund
The Conveyance and Trust Deed dated 25 May 1936 establishing the Charitable Trust required that an endowment fund be set up for the maintenance and upkeep of The Riddell Memorial Hall by the donations of residents of the districts. This was done and subsequently invested in 454 units with COIF Charity Funds with the income to be used as decreed above. The value of this Endowment Fund at 31 May 2024 was £6,558 (2023 - £6,558).
