ABINGER CONSOLIDATED CHARITIES

King George’s Cottage, Abinger Bottom, Dorking, Surrey RH5 6JW (Registered Charity Number: 200124)

ANNUAL REPORT for the year ended 30[th] September 2025

ACTIVITY

It continues to be the case that low-income households find it difficult to make ends meet and most noticeably. Those households have a very low level of savings to fall back on when some unexpected event occurs which either, suddenly reduces their income, or requires additional spending that simply cannot be met from the monthly budget. We know that the financial support we provide makes a real difference to households across the Ancient Parish of Abinger at moments of crisis.

INCOME & EXPENDITURE

We continue to be extremely grateful to the Henry Smith Charity which provides grants to support our work providing financial support to needy people. Henry Smith have changed their grant cycle such that from 1[st] January 2025, grants will be made on the basis on a calendar year rather than the year to end March. This required an adjustment in the amount paid this year such that the income from them of £26,150 is for more than 12 months. We have been particularly grateful to have been awarded a supplementary grant of £10,000 per annum in each of the past 2 years over and above the annual grant which is equivalent to £10,700 adjusted for the 12-month period. Our investments and interest provide an additional £1,380 bringing our total income adjusted for the year to £22,080. Our spending for the same period was £23,181 and given our substantial reserves we are quite comfortable with the excess spending for the year. We intentionally increased our spending on our regular distribution of Sainsburys vouchers to £13,320 (£11,153 in 2024) given the needs of our recipients. Our donations to charities remained stable at £3,000 (£1,000 each to the Belong Project, Dorking Foodbank and the Brigitte Trust). We passed on an additional £1,000 to the Belong Project from the donation we received from an individual in the village. We provided £5861 (£3,363 in 2024) of one-off support to people in the Community.

RESERVES

Abinger Consolidated Charities is well funded and has approximately a year’s spending in reserve which is a legacy from the way in which the Charity has been managed for many years. The current Board of Trustees is comfortable to reduce this level of reserves as necessary given the very steady and dependable income from Henry Smith and the fact that the Charity has never had to resort to fund raising even though it could do so if necessary.
