Activities

Promote, protect and develop for the public benefit the preservation, conservation and improvement of the physical and natural aquatic environment of the UK.We undertake these aims through social inclusion and integration into society through conservation volunteering and community activities, and through advancing the education of the public and published research.

Objects: 3.1 The Objects Of The CIO Are:3.1.1 To Promote Protect And Develop For The Public Benefit The Preservation, Conservation And Improvement Of The Physical And Natural Environment (Including But Not Limited To Water Quality And Good, Sustainable Ecological Status) Of Rivers, Lakes, Other Freshwater Bodies, Estuarine And Marine Waters (Together The “Aquatic Environment”) Of The UK;3.1.2 To Promote Social Inclusion For The Public Benefit By Preventing People From Becoming Socially Excluded, Relieving The Needs Of Those People Who Are Socially Excluded, And Assisting Them To Integrate Into Society, Through Conservation Volunteering And Community-Based Activities Connected With The Aquatic Environment. For The Purpose Of This Clause, ‘Socially Excluded’ Means Being Excluded From Society, Or Parts Of Society, As A Result Of One Or More Of The Following Factors: Unemployment; Financial Hardship; Youth Or Old Age; Ill Health (Physical Or Mental); Disability; Substance Abuse Or Dependency, Including Alcohol And Drugs; Discrimination On The Grounds Of Sex, Race, Disability, Ethnic Origin, Religion, Belief, Creed, Sexual Orientation Or Gender Reassignment; Poor Educational Or Skills Attainment; Relationship And Family Breakdown; Poor Housing That Does Not Meet Basic Habitable Standards; Or Crime, Either As A Victim Of Crime Or As An Offender Rehabilitating Into Society;3.1.3 To Advance The Education Of The Public In The Conservation, Protection And Improvement Of The Aquatic Environment Including By Conducting Or Commissioning Research And Publishing The Results Of Such Research;
