Activities

IBIRC advances education and public benefit through academic research, lectures, seminars, conferences, training, peer-reviewed publications and knowledge exchange on Iraqi and Middle Eastern literature, culture, language, translation, history and archaeology. It also supports heritage preservation, digital access and awareness of human rights, children and vulnerable groups.

Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are, For The Public Benefit: 1. To Advance The Education Of The Public Through Research In The Fields Of Iraqi And Middle Eastern Literature, Culture, Language, Translation Studies, History, Archaeology And Related Disciplines, In Particular But Not Exclusively By: A) Supporting And Conducting Academic Research; B) Organising Lectures, Seminars, Conferences, Training Courses And Other Educational Activities; C) The Publication Of Peer-Reviewed Academic Journals And Other Scholarly Outputs; D) Fostering Academic Collaboration And Knowledge Exchange Between Researchers, Students And Institutions In The United Kingdom, Iraq And Other Countries; E) Publishing And Disseminating The Results Of Such Research. 2. To Advance The Arts, Culture, Heritage And Science By: A) Promoting The Preservation, Documentation And Digital Representation Of Iraqi And Middle Eastern Cultural Heritage, Including Texts, Artefacts, Monuments And Intangible Heritage; And B) Making Such Heritage More Accessible To The Public Through Exhibitions, Publications, Digital Platforms And Other Educational Projects. 3. To Promote Human Rights, As Set Out In The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights And Subsequent United Nations Conventions, With A Particular Focus On The Rights And Protection Of Children And Vulnerable Groups Affected By Conflict, By: (A) Supporting And Disseminating Academic Research On These Issues; And (B) Raising Public Awareness Through Education, Publications And Public Events. In Furtherance Of Object 3, But Not Otherwise, The Trustees Shall Have Power: To Engage In Political Activity Provided That The Trustees Are Satisfied That The Proposed Activities Will Further The Purposes Of The Charity To An Extent Justified By The Resources Committed And The Activity Is Not The Dominant Means By Which The Charity Carries Out Its Objects. Nothing In This Constitution Shall Authorise An Application Of The Property Of The CIO For Purposes Which Are Not Charitable In Accordance With The Law Of England And Wales.
