The charity provides regular educational opportunities through public talks, guided historical walks, exhibitions, and collaborative research projects and maintains and makes accessible a collection of historical documents and photographs and supports independent research through weekly workshops.

Objects: The Object Of The CIO Is The Advancement Of Public Education In The Subjects Of History And Archaeology, With Particular Reference To The Lower Test Valley, And In Furtherance Of This Object:-(1) To Investigate, Survey And Record The Lower Test Valley Area From Archaeological And Historical Viewpoints,(2) To Research, Collect And Publish The Historical Records Of The Lower Test Valley,(3) To Foster Interest In History And Archaeology Through Talks, Exhibitions, Meetings, Courses And By Publication,(4) To Maintain An Awareness Of Local Planning And Development Proposals And To Comment On The Historical And Archaeological Implications Of Such Proposals,(5) To Secure The Preservation, Protection, Development And Improvement Of Features Of Historic Or Public Interest In The Lower Test Valley,(6) To Raise Funds, Maintain Equipment And Form Working Groups Necessary To The Achievement Of These Objectives.nothing In This Constitution Shall Authorise An Application Of The Property Of The CIO For The Purposes Which Are Not Charitable.
