Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are:(1) To Build And Maintain A Memorial Structure, For The Benefit Of The Public, In Commemoration Of The Raf And Other Allied Prisoners Of War Who Participated In, Or Contributed To, The Mass Breakout From The Stalag Luft Iii Prison Camp, Near Zagan, Poland Taking Place Overnight On 24th And 25th March 1944, Known As 'The Great Escape', And Those Who Lost Their Lives As A Result, Thereby Promoting The Efficiency Of The Armed Forces;(2) To Advance Education For The Benefit Of The Public In Subjects Relating To The Great Escape In Such Ways As The Charity Trustees Think Fit, Including By Promoting Study And Research Into Such Subjects By Maintaining A Repository Of Documentary Archives Relating To The Great Escape, And Making These Accessible For Educational Users, Academic Researchers And Historians.
