During the salne period SEN Swimming UK held its official launch event, attended by approximately 30 Individuals representing existing and potential supporters and stakeholders such as swimming industry representatives and funder& The event helped raise awareness ofthe charity's work and generated valuable introductions and pledges that contributed to the organisation's growing network of 5UPPOrters. The charity also invested in the development of its website and operational infrastructure, establishing 2 profession21 platforni through which future programmes and services could be delivered. Developing Solutions to Improve Access to Swimming The key focus during the year was identifying ettective ways to increase the number OF sivimming teachers equipped to support children and young people with SEND. To supporr this objective. SEN Swimming UK engaged Dr james E. Stephenson to assist in the developmcnt of a specialist qualification. Substantial workwas undertaken, including curriculum plannin& learning outcomes. module development and consultatt.on with recognised experts across the SEND and swimming sectors. Contributors and advisors included respected professionals such as Sue Buckley OBE, founder ofDown Syndrome Educatlon International and Kirsty Townsend from the National Autistic Society.
During early 2026 discijssions with the Swimming Teachers, As.£ociation identified an alternative approach capable ofachieving the same objective at significantly greaterscale and lower cosL Trustees unaThimously concluded that partnership rcpresentcd the most effertive route to impacl and therefore made the Strategic decision to pause development of the charity's own qualification. This decision eiisured that charitsble resources remained focused on achievftng the greatest possible beneFIt for Lhildren and young people with SEND. ImporLintly, the leiirning obtained during qii<11ificatinn development continues to hold significant value and is expected to inform future educational resources and professional development programn)es. Strategic Partnership with the Swimming Teachers. Association The most Si2nificant strategic development ofthe year was the establishment ofthe formal partnership between SEN Swimming UK and the Swimtning Teacher5, Association in April 2026. The partnership is desiEned to accelerate proEress towards the charity's objectives by leveraging the reach, credibility and infrastrurture of an established national governing body. The trustees recognised that the partnership offers 2 significantly more effective I'oute to impart than developing an independent qualification. Whilst SEN Swimming UK had already invested substanfi31 rime and resources into qualification development, tlie Partnership enables both organisations to play to thLir unique strengths. The Swimming Teachers, Association brings established traiTJing infrastructure, national reach and expertise in qualification delivery. SEN Swimming UK brings specicl1i%t SEND knowledgL', lived experience, relation.%hips acro%s the SF.ND sector and a clelL r focus oli ensuring thL' needs and interests ot children and young people with SEND rc'm2in at the centre of future developinents. Whilst no bursaries liad been awarded by the end of the reporting period, the framework has been establishLd and the trustees considei- tliat this approach will enable significantly more teachers to acce55 specialist trdining than would have been possible through the charity developing and delivering its own qualification.
Other important elements of the partnership include: Collaboration on a national report (¢1 White Paper) examining the experiences of families and swimming teachers supporting children and young people with SF.ND Actions to increase awareness of barriers faced by children and young people with SFND when accessing swimming lessons Opportunities for SEN Swimming UK to contribute expertise and lived experience to future developments within the sector By the end olthe reporting period survey questions forthe White Paper had been developed and supportsecured from several charities. including Down Syndrome UK, F1( mily Fund. Brandon Trust and the National Autistic Society, to assist with future promotion and engagemenL The trustees believe this partnership significantly strengthens the charity's ability to influence change on a national scale and created a crediblc and sustainable pathway through which more SWiTnming teachers could access specialist SEND training in future years. Supporting Families Through the SEN Swimming UK Directory During the reporting period SEN Swimming UK also developed and launched its national directory ofswimming Leachers. The directory has been created in response to a comlnon challenge faced by families ol children and young people with SEND: identifying swimniing teachers with the appropriate qualifications, training and expcrience to support their child. For Tnany families, finding suitable provision can involve significant time. uncertainty and repeated negative experiences. The directory is designed to simplify this process by providing a free resource through which families can identify appropriately qualified swimming teachers operating within the UK. The dirertory oifici211ylaunched alongside the announcement olthe charity's partnership with the Swimming Te2chers' Association in April 2026. Whilst still in its early stages at the end of the reporting period, the dlrectory represents the charity's first direct resource for beneficiaries and establishes the loundations for a growing national support network The trustees believe the direcfory has the potential to become an increasingly valuable resource for families in future years. I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/05/2026.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in
accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
The charity’s gross income exceeded £250,000 and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of FMAAT.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which
gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
