This aims to give you an overview of our activities at this our 1[st] Annual General Meeting of the charity.** Friends of Lake View Park – Chairs Annual Report April 2026 Dear Friends of Lake View Park, I am delighted to have been the Chair of Friends of Lake View Park, and to see the success that we have made in our first year. The success of our Friends group is all about partnership, and we have many people to thank. We thank all the physical work our amazing volunteers do who come out in all weathers. We hold our own working parties on the second Saturday of the month, with a second working party done in partnership with The Sherbourne Valley Project on the last Monday of the month. These work parties in the Winter focus on work in Grayswood creating new glades, clearing debris from the historic allotments, and path maintenance; and in the summer on clearing the Non-Native Invasive Species Himalayan Balsam. We particularly thank our volunteer Jason Wilkinson for his nearly daily litter picks in the park, and maintenance of litter around the street bins, and for instant reporting of issues to the Council Streetpride Team. We thank our Trustees and Committee Members for their sterling work in their roles, including their duties regards Ecological Monitoring, Events, Incorporated Charity Organisation Secretarial duties, Finance, Membership, Meeting Minute Taking, Projects, and other roles. We thank our partners in the Coventry City Council (CCC) including the Parks Service and their Urban Rangers, the Ecological Team, and Streetpride; and our local Councillors, particularly Cllr Gavin Lloyd. We thank The Sherbourne Valley Project, part of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust for the work of the River Restoration Officers, Education Officer and their Young Rangers. Of the Cultural and Communications Officers, and of the Project Manager for coordinating the National Lottery Heritage Funded project, which has seen great success over the last four years, and which is now in its final year of funding. We thank Lake View Allotments for permitting us to have our shed on their secure land, and for permitting use access through the allotments for waste removal. We thank them for their work on clearing We thank the Sherbourne Community Church for the use of their meeting room and for supporting our talking events. We thank The Conservation Volunteers Chestnut Fund, the 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust Fund, and the private donors that have financed our work. We thank Morrisons Supermarket for their kind donation of food & drink for our events. We look forward to continuing these partnerships into 2026 and the future, for the benefit of our the people who use our park, and for the nature that lives in it. Darren Male Chair Friends of Lake View Park Friends of Lake View Park - Secretary Annual Report April 2026 ## Dear Friends of Lake View Park. Back in late 2024 the incredible group of volunteers who regularly supported Warwickshire Wildlife Trusts work at Lake View Park, made a decision to set up a friends of group. A charity that could support the work on the park, encourage more people to become involved and act as a legacy organisation that could take over volunteer based work in the park supporting Coventry City Council when the Sherbourne Valley Project ended. At this meeting, Trustee roles were proposed and as Secretary, I embarked on a journey to set us up as a Charity (CIO) Charitable Incorporated Organisation. After a lot of emails and chasing around on the 10[th] July 2025, the Charity Commission officially recognised Friends of Lake View Park as a new charity, Reference Number 1214045. Since then I have registered Friends of Lake View Park with HMRC to allow us to collect Gift Aid on applicable donations. I have set up a Google Workspace for Non Profits, which has allowed us to register a web domain FOLVP.org, set up charity email addresses @FOLVP.org for trustees, committee members and Working Party members as required. We have also secured cloud-based storage for holding and sharing charity documentation securely. I have registered the charity with GoodHub a fundraising platform that supports small charities in raising money through donations or individual fundraising campaigns. My aim has been, setting up with these solid foundations, it will allow the charity to be credible when applying for grants, allow us to reclaim 25% gift aid on qualifying donations, allow trustees and committee members to segregate FOLVP activities from personal admin and allow us to communicate more effectively with our partners and friends going forward. For reference the Objects of our Charity are:- To promote the conservation, protection and improvement of Lake View Park, in the city of Coventry, for the benefit of the public primarily, but not exclusively by the maintenance and improvement of the park. To advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of Lake View Park. To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants of Coventry and the surrounding area in particular, but not exclusively by the preservation, support and improvement of Lake View Park. Ian Malins Secretary Friends of Lake View Park Charity No 1214045 Friends of Lake View Park - Treasurer Report April 2026 Dear Friends of Lake View Park. Please see the attached financial breakdown for FY 25/26. A brief overview of the Income and Expenditure. We have submitted five grant applications of which two were successful. High levels of competition for funding and a difficult financial climate has made fundraising efforts challenging, however we are very grateful to receive funding to support our aims. We have received a total of £1,641.93. This comprises of mainly grant funding and a small number of donations. This includes The Conservation Volunteers Chestnut Fund grant of £485.09, personal donations of £125.47 and gift aid contributions of £31.37, a grant from 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust Fund of £1,000.00. As per our applications for funding we have spent the 83% of our income on expenses for work party activities including insurance, a shed, flasks, trolley, loppers, secateurs, gardening gloves, litter pickers and keys. We have spent the remaining 17% to support ongoing community outreach on a website domain, notice boards and collection tins for future fundraising efforts. The remaining £329.81 will be spent on high viz work vests and additional equipment for work parties as well as future insurance renewals. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the AGM on the 18th of April as I am not in Coventry that day. Jackie Dines Treasurer, Friends of Lakeview Park Charity No 1214045 Friends of Lake View Park – Events Annual Report April 2026 Dear Friends of Lake View Park. In 2025 we acquired the insurance we need to delivery events and completed risk assessments for events and working parties. Our first official FOLVP event was held in May 2025. We organised a bat walk around the park led by Victoria, a volunteer from Warwickshire Bat Group. It was well supported with around 15 people joining the walk and with our detectors we found bats! It had been our intention to hold one FOLVP event a month. We didn’t quite achieve that later in the year when the weather was colder and the ground conditions made the park less accessible, however we held events over the Summer and into the Autumn. In June we organised a walking tour of the park led by Darren Male where we discussed the history of the park, flood management and future plans for the park. July’s event, a balsam bashing/ working party evening, was postponed until August due to the conditions of the ground. In September we held our event at Sherbourne Community Church where Chris West gave a talk called, ‘Bombers on the Skyline – a story of a Coventry Girl in the Blitz and Beyond with LVP as the backdrop’. It was the first FOLVP event where we had collection tins and those attending could make donations to FOLVP. Over 50 people attended the event and thanks to their generosity £126 was raised. We thank Chris for giving his time to support FOLVP, the church for letting us use space there and Morrisons on Holyhead Road for donating a voucher so we could purchase refreshments. In October the regular monthly Volunteer Working Party took place, as they had throughout 2025, weather permitting. Some members of FOLVP already had strong connections with Sherbourne Valley Project, Sherbourne Valley Allotments and the Food Union. Throughout 2025 FOLVP joined and supported events run by these groups such as the Lantern Lit Wassail Parade, junior rangers sessions and a Balsam Bashing and Pizza evening. In 2026 we intend to plan a year of events collaboratively with Sherbourne Valley Project and other organisations to continue to bring people in the community together to learn, share, meet new people and enjoy Lake View Park. Rachel Norwood Events Friends of Lake View Park Charity No 1214045 Friends of Lake View Park – Ecological Annual Report April 2026 Dear Friends of Lake View Park. Wildlife surveys to monitor the birds, butterflies, amphibians and river flies have been undertaken throughout the year. Birds and river flies are monitored on a monthly basis year round; amphibians and butterflies are monitored during the summer months. Over the last 5 years, 47 species of bird and 19 species of butterfly have been recorded in the park. The results from the river fly survey are recorded in the Cartographer app and a river score is calculated based on the quantity and variety of species noted. Gammarus shrimp, Baetidae and Ephemerellidae mayfly larvae, Cased and Caseless Caddisfly larvae, and Blackfly larvae are regularly recorded. European bullhead fish have also been caught during the sampling process, especially in the summer. Mammals recorded in the park include muntjac deer, squirrels, European red fox, voles and, recently, badgers have been spotted. Bats can also be seen in the park during the evenings of the summer months. There is a decent population of common pipistrelles, and brown long eared bats have also been identified. Walks around the parks using bat detectors proved to be very popular during 2025. The recordings of birds, butterflies and mammals are sent to the Warwickshire Biological Records Centre and have been shared with the Coventry urban rangers.
