Raising awareness of and commemorating the Battle of Flamborough Head 1779 in the context of the American War of Independence (1775-1783) through lectures, talks, presentations, posters and booklets (including for schools), exhibitions and information panels; Annual Festival and Dinner in Filey, North Yorkshire in late September each year;
Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are:1. To Advance The Education Of The Public In The Subject Of The Battle Of Flamborough Head 1779 (?the Battle?) By Carrying Out Research And Providing Presentations, Lectures, Publications (including Booklets And Learning Programmes For Schools), Posters, Exhibitions And Other Events For The Benefit Of The Public With A Particular Focus On Adults And Children Residing On Or Near To The Yorkshire Coast, Visitors To The Yorkshire Coast And Those Members Of The Public With An Interest In Maritime, Local, National And International History, In Order To Promote And Increase Both Individual And Collective Knowledge And Understanding Of The Battle And Its Significance In The Context Of The American War Of Independence (1775-1783) And What Else Was Happening In Britain And The World In 1779; 2. To Advance Heritage For The Public Benefit With A Particular Focus On Adults And Children Residing On Or Near The Yorkshire Coast, Visitors To The Yorkshire Coast And Those Members Of The Public With An Interest In Maritime, Local, National And International History, By Amongst Other Things, Preserving And Promoting Knowledge Of And Commemorating The Battle Of Flamborough Head 1779 (?the Battle?) Through Annual Lectures, Festivals And Other Events, Erecting And Maintaining Appropriate Memorials Relating To The Battle, And Erecting And Maintaining Interpretive Panels Along The King Charles Iii England Coast Path Between Bridlington And Scarborough In Order To Provide Historical And Contextual Information.
