It has been a pleasure to act as the Chair of Trustees and to be part of a new and worthwhile venture that encourages and equips churches to be involved in supporting those who are suffering within our hospitals and healthcare settings. Someone Cares began in 2018 as a local project with Freedom Church Liverpool (Charity No: 1161463) supporting the chaplains and Spiritual Care services at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Having seen the huge benefits of church supporting chaplaincy, the team looked to replicate the project nationally, with the support of The Cinnamon Network. This past year has been an exciting one for Someone Cares UK. We have seen families in hospital supported and a new project in Scotland started. In addition, we became a CIO in April 2025, and have focused on building good governance foundations, listening to the expertise of chaplains working in healthcare, and creating the resources needed for local projects to run well. As Chair of Trustees, I want to say a huge thank you to all those who have supported Someone Cares UK this year - your encouragement, advice and support have been invaluable. We highly value the relationships that we have formed with individual chaplains, healthcare chaplaincy networks and churches across the country and all that we have learnt from these connections. We are looking forward to being part of the landscape of chaplaincy and the interaction between faith and health in the UK over the coming years. In practice this work involves three key areas: 1. Promoting the value of healthcare chaplaincy amongst church communities 2. Acting as a bridge between church communities and healthcare chaplaincy 3. Equipping churches to support healthcare chaplaincy through: 1. Forming supportive partnerships with churches 2. Providing resources and healthcare chaplaincy volunteer training 3. Encouraging churches to involve their local community 4. Creating a network of churches involved in supporting healthcare chaplaincy for peer support, sharing of ideas and ongoing learning - - Someone Cares UK CIO Charity Registration No: 1212848 4 ## Impact ## Our story this year ## Report - 2025 26 Promoting healthcare chaplaincy Providing chaplaincy within healthcare is a challenging task, and one that churches are well placed to support through volunteers and resourcing. This year we have promoted this possibility through a number of activities. We have exhibited at and had stage time at the ‘Chaplaincy Roadshow’ and ‘Heaven in ’ Healthcare conferences. We have also written articles for publications such as the Evangelical Alliance’s national magazine ‘Idea’, encouraging churches to support ‘ ’ their local healthcare chaplaincy services. Our regular Explore Someone Cares webinars have been attended by churches and chaplains throughout the UK. ## A bridge between healthcare chaplaincy and churches This year we have worked to build relationships with healthcare chaplaincy networks and have spent time listening to chaplains about what support they would find helpful. Chaplains have told us that well-trained volunteers are a priority and this has led to the creation of healthcare chaplaincy volunteer training in line with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy competency and capabilities framework plus a Resource Hub for projects. - - Someone Cares UK CIO Charity Registration No: 1212848 5 ## Impact Report ## - 2025 26 ## Our story this year ## - Equipping Churches Project highlight Freedom Church in Liverpool supports the ’ Spiritual Care services at Alder Hey Children s Hospital. In 2025/26 595 items of - practical love toiletry packs and PJs The Freedom Church team consists of six pastoral visiting volunteers, who each give time to supporting the Spiritual Care services at the hospital. Congregational members also contribute - packaging toiletry packs and PJs, preparing Christmas resources and praying for the patients, families and staff at Alder Hey. ## Community Involvement The project has also started gathering healthcare chaplains and church members from across the city through ‘Hub events’ and has involved a school and a Knit and Natter group in gathering and assembling items of practical love. 56 individuals supported by pastoral volunteers 88 families took part in Christmas activities “My daughter received PJs from Someone Cares during a visit to A+E. On receiving the PJs we felt loved and cared for, but not only that, it helped calm my daughter and make the whole hospital experience less ” - stressful and brought a little bit of joy A grateful dad - - Someone Cares UK CIO Charity Registration No: 1212848 6 ## Impact Report ## - 2025 26 ## Our story this year ## - Equipping churches A new project This year Someone Cares saw its first replication; partnering with Hope Church to support chaplaincy services at the Borders General Hospital. Having first met the leaders of Hope Church in 2024, Someone Cares UK has been supporting the church as they explored starting a Someone Cares project. Someone Cares UK became a registered charity on 7th April 2025. Since then we have focused on establishing good governance foundations and structures, - ready for growth in 2026 27. ## Team and expertise - One area of challenge in 2025 26 has been engaging with healthcare chaplaincy from our church perspective. Recognising this, plus the complex landscape of healthcare chaplaincy, we are looking to add a registered and experienced healthcare chaplain to the Someone Cares UK team this year. This will help Someone Cares UK to act as a more effective bridge between church and healthcare chaplaincy. ## Cinnamon Having won the 2023 Cinnamon Network Incubator programme, we graduated from the Incubator this year. Recognising our need for training and support, and valuing the excellence provided by Cinnamon, we chose to join the Cinnamon Network Leadership community. ## Financial sustainability In 2026-27 we will be looking at increasing our income streams to decrease our reliance on financial grants. This will include start-up and subscription fees for projects, selling our training externally and diversifying our fundraising efforts. ## New projects We enter 2026-27 with two projects operational and two more in the exploration and planning phases. We are looking forward to establishing these projects, plus more, and creating a network of supportive projects across the UK. ## Support for projects As new projects are established, we will be building the support available to our local projects. ## Income The opening funds from Freedom Church includes a grant of £3125 from The Cinnamon Network, who also provided the grants of £6250. The one off donation was kindly donated by The ARM Trust. We would like to acknowledge and thank both organisations for their generosity and support. ## Expenditure Someone Cares UK became financially independent of Freedom Church Liverpool on 1st July 2025. From July 2025 to 5th April 2026, total expenditure for Someone Cares UK was £8,154. Expenditure was primarily driven by: - Staffing costs (£7600) - Since July 1st 2025, Someone Cares UK employed a CEO for 8 hours per week and a Project Developer for 4 hours per week. Expenditure included training opportunities with Cinnamon plus occasional travel reimbursement. Overheads (£554) - Costs such as insurance, book keeping and payroll software plus additional administrative running costs. ## Reserves The Trustees review the Reserves Policy annually. It is the policy of Someone Cares UK to ’ hold reserves to cover three months operational costs, based on the annual budget. The total amount carried forward into 2026-27 is £12,891.
