Welcome to Mount’s Bay Pilot Gig Club AGM 2024. Thank you all for coming and
welcome to our President/Vice Presidents.
Thank you to St Aubyn Estate for their generous support both financially and through
providing premises as well as arguably the best rowing waters on the circuit.
Thank you to Mount’s Bay Sailing Club for providing us with the venue and for supporting
the club this year with the use of the club house for monthly Management Committee
meetings as well as our Presentation Evening.
Committee Update
This year has been a busy one with updating our policies and procedures. Thank you to
all who have helped with these. We are still aware of some areas for development and
this will be high on the agenda for the new Management Committee meeting. We now
have a website again and thank you to Naomi Watts for her work on this.|Jo Cottam| 1 ## Fundraising Fundraising has been great this year with the Duck Race, a film night at Culdrose and our regatta and hamper raffles as well as our regatta. Thank you to Julie Ancell and the team of people who have made this such a successful fundraising year. We constantly have to replace and repair equipment due to accidental damage as well as wear and tear so this is invaluable. ## MBPGC Regatta Our regatta this year was different than usual as we were asked to host the first of the CPGA Senior Summer Series. The event was a great success and this was due to our Event Committee as well as members who helped throughout the weekend. We have learnt that we are able to run a well organised and enjoyable event on a larger scale but we aim to include more sections in future events to ensure we are meeting the needs of all our members. ## CPGA Consultation Zoe Payne, Claire Sharp, Charlotte Roberts and I all attended the West Cornwall area CPGA Consultation. We put forward your concerns regarding the short notice of announcing the Senior Summer Series and other feedback about the season that we had received from our members. Hopefully this will lead to some positive changes for next year. When discussing the WPGC we (along with all other clubs represented) discussed the difficulties faced with crew selection with limited gigs being permitted, as well as the possibility of loan boats if available. The CPGA representatives have taken these points to the WPGC committee although there is no sign of a change for the near future. ## Premises We have recently renewed our lease on the Seed Store for another year and this is in line with the lease on the gig shed. There have been some issues with water ingress and thank you to Clare Mackness who has come up with a solution for this and has met with Henry Mathews to discuss ways in which we can maintain both these properties to comply with the expectations of our leases. If any members are able to help with the maintenance of these buildings please let the committee know. We continue to be extremely grateful to St Aubyn’s Estates for allowing us to use these fantastic facilities. ## MBPGC CIO Application. We have been registered as a CASC/Community Amateur Sports Club which many of you will know is is an organisation which has been granted special tax status by HMRC in recognition of the fact that that it meets certain criteria. Basically, a CASC is a local or regional sports club that is non-profit making and open to the whole community. The reason we are converting to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation is that unincorporated club’s legal relationships are held through individual committee members in their personal capacity, as opposed to through a legal entity. If something goes wrong, there is a risk that committee members can be held personally liable. Many clubs that have grown over the years have taken the view that it is no longer appropriate 2 3 for voluntary committee members to bear this risk. There are other factors which have supported the decision voted for by members at the AGM in 2018, including the potential to access additional funding streams through achieving charitable status. As an amateur sports club which is truly open to the whole community we are likely to qualify as a charitable organisation advancing amateur sport and there has been a working party on the Management Committee who are now liaising with a Charity Expert who has been employed to ensure we are legally compliant in our conversion to a CIO. Charitable status does come with a different and more robust level of regulation and there are six club members who will become charity trustees. This does not necessarily change their overall role in carrying out the strategic management of the club but it does mean that they take on certain legal duties. We hope to complete the conversion in early 2025 and will keep members informed of the progress of our application. I would like to thank Sam Shah for doing such a great job as Treasurer for the last twelve years. She is now stepping down to take a well-deserved break as she has an important year ahead! We will be asking for members who are interested in this and other committee positions later in this meeting. You will need a proposer and a seconder for the voting process in accordance with our constitution. Thank you to the Management Committee for your continued hard work and to those who are stepping down. Thank you to the Water Committee for working so hard to get crews out and to events throughout the season and to those who are stepping down. Thanks must also go to the maintenance crew led by Maxine and Andy as well as Claire Sharp for taking on the Bosun role in the latter part of this year. Thank you to all members who contribute so much to our club and let’s look forward to a great winter of training leading to a fantastic 2025 season. The hard work, dedication, and Roberts) passion of our members, from rowers and coxswains to committee members and volunteers, have been the driving force throughout 2024. This report will highlight the successes of the Ladies’, Men’s, and Junior sections, showcasing the collective effort that makes our club such a special community. Director of Rowing I am both proud and humbled to have been appointed as MBPGC’s Director of Rowing. It is a privilege to serve our rowing community, and I am committed to fulfilling this role with dedication, passion, and vision for the future. Over the past weeks, I’ve shared my belief in the importance of equality, inclusiveness, and diversity within our club. These values will be central to our growth as we work towards fostering a positive and collaborative mindset across MBPGC. My goal is to see the club thrive and grow, 3 positioning ourselves for a successful 2025 season and beyond. Last Saturday’s awards evening was a true testament to the incredible talent, determination, and commitment that define MBPGC. It’s essential that we harness these positive traits and embed them into every facet of the club’s culture. By doing so, we will build a stronger, more unified MBPGC—a club that is not only a force to be reckoned with but one that is poised to thrive for another 38 years. The recent appointment of our Ladies’ and Men’s section Captains and Vice Captains marks the beginning of a streamlined and more effective approach to leadership. This structure is designed to promote more agile decision-making, greater collaboration, and stronger alignment across the club. While we recognise that this transition may present challenges, I am confident that, together with this leadership team and the Water Committee, we will rise to meet them for the benefit of MBPGC. Work is already underway to review and enhance key processes, including our selection criteria and land training programs. We are introducing a more robust, data-driven testing regime designed to maximise potential while remaining sensitive to individual training needs. Land training will also be tailored to address specific requirements, ensuring that every member is equipped to perform at their best. The Junior and Novice, sections are the lifeblood of our club. They represent not only our present but also our future. I am excited to work closely with these sections to nurture their growth, cultivate the next generation of MBPGC rowers and leaders, whilst ensuring they are supported by our dedicated volunteers and mentors. Equally important is our social section, offering a valuable opportunity for members to enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty of Mounts Bay while spending quality time with friends, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Looking ahead, my vision is to build a club that not only succeeds on the water but also fosters a culture of respect, inclusiveness, and shared purpose. I am confident that, with the collective effort of our members, we will achieve these goals and continue to set a high standard for rowing excellence. Ladies’ Section The Ladies’ Section enjoyed a fantastic season, delivering impressive performances across all categories. The commitment and skill of our rowers shone through at every competition, earning results to be proud of: • Scilly Isles Gig Championships: o Open Category: 13th and 33rd o Super Vets Category: 1st and 27th • Summer Series: o Newquay Championships: ▪ Four crews entered! ▪ A Crew: 7th place ▪ B Crew: Joint 28th ▪ C Crew: 3rd in Round 2 ▪ D Crew: 6th in Round 2 • County Championships: 4 o Olive, Louisa, Jess, Ele, and Teresa delivered strong performances. • Vets and Super Vets Competitions: o Vets at Brixham: 3rd and 11th placings o Super Vets at Appledore: 3rd place Special thanks go to Hayley, Collette, Naomi and Jade for their exceptional work as vice representatives, with a particular acknowledgment of Jade’s contributions since 2019. Awards: • Rower of the Year: Jess • Most Improved Rower: Lucy Cudmore Men’s Section The Men’s Section also enjoyed a strong season, showing great determination and teamwork throughout the year. • Scilly Isles Gig Championships: o Super Vets: 25th o Vets: 4th o Men’s A: 17th o Men’s B: 42nd • Newquay Championships: o Men’s A: Reached the quarterfinals o Men’s B: Competed in the first round • Summer Series: o Men’s A: 12th place o Men’s B: 19th place • Men’s Vets Championship: o Secured 3rd place County Representation (Winning their respective categories) • Tony Such - Super Vets, • Kieran Metter and Joe Seaton – U25 Awards • Joe Seaton – Men’s rowers rower • Ross Sheppard – Men’s Most Improved Junior Section Our Junior Section had a fantastic year, with both the U16 and U14 teams attending multiple local events and gaining valuable points that contributed to the club winning the overall trophy. • Highlights: o Hayle Championships: The U14 crew reached the quarterfinals o Newquay U16 Championships: Won the Plate Race o Adult Newquay Championships: Three U16 rowers—Olive, Amelie, and Joe— 5 ||stepped up to compete alongside adult crews, demonstrating exceptional talent and
composure.

o Olive – 1st in u16s and mixed ladies
o Teresa and Ele – 1st in Super Vets
o Louisa – 2nd in u18s and U25s
o Jess – 1 st u25s
• International Success:
o Olive and Joe represented the club at the Junior International CPG Championships in
Plymouth, bringing home an impressive collection of medals.
o The U14 crew also attended the Junior International Championships, winning silver
in the free mixed category—a fantastic achievement to cap off the season.
The leadership of the Junior Section transitioned smoothly, with Ele taking over from
Shirley in August. The U16 rowers have moved up to the adult sections, continuing their
success and making valuable contributions to the club’s performance.
As we look ahead, the Junior Section is gearing up for another exciting year, balancing
water and indoor seed store training to ensure readiness for the 2025 season.
Closing Remarks
This year has truly been a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of
everyone involved in MBPGC. From individual triumphs to team successes, you have
achieved so much together and laid a strong foundation for the future. It is your
unwavering commitment that keeps this club thriving and continually pushing forward.
To achieve success in rowing, as in life, you don’t need to be extraordinary—you need to
be what many are not: consistent, determined, and willing to work hard. There are no
shortcuts to excellence. Integrity, purpose, determination, and discipline are the
cornerstones of becoming a champion both on and off the water. This mindset embodies
the spirit of MBPGC: Row for One - Row for All.
As we reflect on this year’s accomplishments, let’s carry that same spirit into the seasons
ahead. Together, we will continue to build on our successes and strive for even greater
achievements.

Repairs to Kensa and Cormoran. Trailers have all been serviced externally. We are now looking to keep them maintained internally This year we purchased new oars, a reminder to all to look after oars, please be careful with them as they are expensive to replace. We have improved the gym offering with new equipment. Please look after the equipment, especially the ergos. ## **Amenities** £1500 on amenities, please be aware that we are on a water meter. We are having smart meters installed. ## **Training and courses** We have money in the budget for training, but we rarely use it, so members are welcome to come to the committee with suggestions. ## **Fees** We have spent a lot of money on entry fees this year, large increase on last year We have to pay for DBS checks for those working or are rowing with under 18’s ## **Website** We now have a website up and running, thanks to Naomi Watts for the website. We now own our domain name. ## **Parking** We have just received our parking invoice for 2023/2024, we have paid it and are now looking to recoup the charges. ## **Donations** 7 **----- Start of picture text -----**

Our event
£8054.00 profit was made this year, taking over £11,000 in total. We have great facilities
and we have the support of Marazion Town Council now as well as St Aubyn Estate.
Towing and Transport
We pay for shipping to Scillies as well as mileage for towers, this is recouped in the
transport fees you pay each regatta, we generally draw even on that.
Fundraising
This year we held a Duck Race, a film showing and a Quiz night.
Total profit of £2490.58. Despite a lot of income, we have had to pay out a lot this year,
including using outside contractors.

The committee has reviewed the fees paid at events. It was acknowledged that the
juniors currently don’t pay fees, but use the boats and oars. So we propose that the
juniors pay transport fees now.
The committee have been discussing the increase in entry fees for events and have
proposed that rather than increase membership rates, that in instead there will be an
increase in the fees due for racing to £6 per person for all CPGA and Championship
events, this is an increase of £2.50 to contribute to the entry fees.
There were no objections to this proposal and it was accepted.

Related Partl¢s There are no related partles ## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF MOUNTS BAY PILOT GIG CLUB I report on the accounts Mounts Bay Pilot Gig Club for the year ended 31 October 2025 ## Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (The 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act - follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act and; - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## Basis of independent examiner’s report My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters.
