Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
The charity aims to ensure that its trustees are able to bring a range of different skills to the board.. Induction and training of new trustees All new trustees are provided with details of their responsibilities by way of relevant Charity Commission leaflets. Further training is available to any trustee who wish to receive it.
Organisational structure and management
The day to day running and management of the charity is undertake by the trustees.
Risk management
The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
The Charity’s objectives
To advance the education of the public in the history of world war one, regarding campaigns away from the western front through:
a) providing opportunities for the study into the legacy and lessons of those campaigns and those who fought or served in them;
b) raising awareness of those who fought or served in them and those who gave their lives;
c) research for such purposes;
d) providing information and holding events; e) such other ways as the trustees may determine.
The charity's main activities
The provision of a journal three times of year also the arranging of a regular series of talks on aspects of the Great War campaigns other than the western front
Achievements and performance
This has bene the first year of the Not the Western Front Society, so much of the achievement has been about putting things in place for the future. The decision was made to make the membership run on a calendar year and so the first membership year would run for 18 months from June 2025 to December 2026. During the financial year the organization attracted 67 members with half of the membership year still to run. The trustees viewed this as a good start to the organisation operation.
During the year the organization produced 2 journals which were well received looking at events in China, Gallipoli and the Middle East. The Trustees also attended three external exhibitions to promote the work of the charity.
The plan for the coming year is to continue to grow the membership and look for suitable opportunities to collaborate with other like minded groups.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Littlemore Community Association
I report on the accounts of the organisation for the year ended 31 March 2026, which are set out on the following pages
Respective responsibilities of the trustees and the examiner
The trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to an audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to examine the accounts under section 43 of the 1993 Act, follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act and state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; and
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities (SORP 2005). have not been met; or
- 2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
