## **Objectives and Activities**

NAKAYOSHI KAI – THE JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP GROUP CIO exists to prevent loneliness and social isolation among Japanese residents in the United Kingdom, particularly families and parents, through social events, parenting support, and community activities. The charity also aims to preserve and promote Japanese language and culture within the UK.

To achieve these objectives, the charity organises regular social gatherings, cultural events, parenting support activities, and opportunities for friendship and mutual support among members of the community.

Through these activities, the charity helps individuals who may experience loneliness or isolation to gain confidence, build meaningful social connections, and become more engaged within their local communities in the United Kingdom.

The charity also promotes Japanese language and culture through its activities, contributing to greater cultural understanding and strengthening friendship between Japan and the United Kingdom.

## **Public Benefit Statement**

The trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

The charity exists to benefit individuals connected to Japan and Japanese culture living in the United Kingdom. This includes Japanese residents, individuals with Japanese heritage (such as those with a Japanese parent, grandparent, or spouse), as well as individuals and families without Japanese heritage who have an interest in Japan, are planning to live in Japan, or wish to engage with Japanese language and culture.

Through its activities, the charity provides opportunities for social interaction, peer support, and community engagement, helping to reduce loneliness and social isolation and improve wellbeing.

The charity also promotes cultural exchange between Japan and the United Kingdom by sharing Japanese language and culture with the wider community. The trustees believe that these activities provide clear public benefit both to participants and to the wider society.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

NAKAYOSHI KAI - THE JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP GROUP CIO is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered by the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 13 February 2025 and operates in accordance with its Constitution.

Trustees are recruited for their commitment to the mission of the charity and for their skills relevant to achieving its objectives. Trustees meet regularly to consider public benefit obligations, assess risks, agree plans, monitor implementation, and review progress against objectives. Meetings are held in person or virtually.

## **Financial Review**

During the year, the charity received income from membership fees, donations, and fundraising activities. These funds were used to support the charity’s activities, including social events, community support programmes, and administrative costs.

The charity's total income for the year was £20497.10. Total expenditure amounted to £18580.75, resulting in net funds of £1916.35 for the year.

At the year end, the charity held total funds of £22,364.57, all of which were unrestricted funds. These funds are held in the charity’s bank accounts and are available to support future activities and ensure the ongoing financial stability of the charity.

The trustees are satisfied with the financial position of the charity and consider that it has sufficient resources to continue its activities in the foreseeable future.

## **Reserves Policy**

The trustees aim to maintain sufficient unrestricted reserves to ensure the continued operation of the charity and to meet any unforeseen expenditure.

Given the size and nature of the charity, the trustees consider the current level of reserves to be appropriate to support ongoing activities and provide financial stability.

## **Statement on Liabilities**

The trustees confirm that the charity had no material liabilities outstanding at the year end.

## **Plans for the Future**

The charity plans to further develop and expand its activities in order to reach a wider number of individuals connected to Japan and Japanese culture who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation.

In the coming years, the trustees aim to increase the frequency and variety of social and cultural events, enabling more people to access opportunities for friendship, peer support, and community engagement.

The charity also intends to strengthen cultural exchange between Japan and the United Kingdom by promoting Japanese language and culture more widely within local communities.

The trustees remain committed to ensuring that the charity grows in a sustainable way while maintaining its core focus on wellbeing, inclusion, and community connection.

## **Trustees’ Declaration**

The trustees declare that they have approved this Trustees’ Annual Report and confirm compliance with their duties under section 4 of the Charities Act 2011.
