Wings of Hope report 2025, from the Chair of Trustees, Karen Eakins
As Chair of Trustees, I am proud to present the annual report for Wings of Hope Northampton, reflecting on our first year of meaningful impact within our community.
Our charity opened in January 2025. Over the past year, we have continued to support refugees and people seeking asylum across Northamptonshire, providing practical assistance, emotional support, and opportunities for connection and belonging. At a time when many face uncertainty, isolation, and complex challenges, our charity has remained a welcoming and trusted source of help.
In June 2025 we held our launch event at Broadmead Community Church. It was a joy to have about 90 people join us. This included refugees, church families, town councillors and the Mayor of Northampton Cllr Jane Birch, who shared a lovely endorsement for our work. So many great connections were made at this event. We were so grateful to hear directly from refugees about their experience of transitioning to the UK, who shared so openly and courageously about their experience.
We opened our fist house in September and welcomed in our first tenant. The house looks and feels like a home thanks to our partner church, New Life Weston Favell, and our Friendship and Support team. Our tenant has settled well and is now confidently using local amenities, and transport to aid her independence.
We have also been supporting new refugees who have been housed in Northampton to help them navigate new systems and processes and integrate into life in the town. over the last year we have supported nine individuals and seven families.
What stands out most this year is the resilience and courage of the individuals and families we support. Their determination to create new lives, and resilience shown as they navigate new school systems, utilities processes, and new ways of life. We are equally grateful for the heart and commitment of our staff and volunteers, whose compassion and dedication are central to everything we do.
We have also benefited from the support of local partners, funders, and the wider Northampton community. These relationships are essential to our work and enable us to reach more people and respond effectively to changing needs.
While we celebrate our achievements, we remain mindful of the challenges ahead. Ongoing pressures on funding, housing, and the asylum system continue to affect those we support and the services we provide. As a Board, we are committed to ensuring that Wings of Hope Northampton remains sustainable, responsive, and true to its mission.
On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has supported our work over the past year. Your generosity, time, and belief in our mission make a lasting difference.
It is an honour to serve as Chair of Trustees, and I am proud of all that we have achieved together. We look ahead with determination and hope, committed to continuing our work in building a more inclusive and compassionate community that equips and empowers refugees across Northampton.
