It was founded in 2015 and officially launched in 2016. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising Gordon McCain, Lisa Beserve and Abu Bakarr Jalloh, who are collectively responsible for oversight, governance, safeguarding of resources and ensuring that all activities align with the Foundation’s charitable objectives. The Foundation currently operates primarily through voluntary support and founder-funded contributions. The Trustees meet as required to review activities, approve expenditure and ensure compliance with the Foundation’s governing document. ## **Objectives and Activities** The Foundation’s objectives are to: - Promote literacy and reading culture among children and young people in Sierra Leone - • Improve access to books and educational materials for underserved communities - Support community learning initiatives and mobile library programmes - Encourage creativity, comprehension and lifelong learning During the reporting period, the Foundation undertook activities including: - Purchase and donation of books and learning materials to schools and communities - Shipping and transportation of educational materials to beneficiary communities - Construction and operational support of mobile libraries - Literacy advocacy and awareness-raising through social media platforms - Coordination and management support for Foundation activities through a funded Coordinator role ## **Achievements and Performance** During the reporting period, the Foundation continued implementing literacy-focused interventions aligned with its mission of restoring the reading culture in Sierra Leone. Key achievements during the year included: - Procurement and distribution of books and educational materials to targeted communities - Support for book donation initiatives reaching children and young learners - Construction and operational support for mobile library initiatives - Shipping of books and learning resources to beneficiary communities in Sierra Leone - Ongoing literacy awareness delivered through active management of the Foundation’s social media platforms - Provision of operational coordination support through a stipend for the Foundation Coordinator The Trustees are satisfied that the activities undertaken during the year contributed positively towards improving literacy awareness and educational access for children and communities in Sierra Leone, in direct furtherance of the Foundation’s charitable purposes. ## **Financial Review** The Foundation received a total income of £5,000 during the reporting period. The full amount was contributed personally by the Founder, Dr Yakama Manty Jones, in support of the Foundation’s literacy and operational activities. Expenditure during the year was applied directly to the following charitable purposes: - £2,000 paid as stipend support for the Foundation Coordinator - Purchase and donation of books and learning materials - Shipping and logistics costs for the transportation of educational materials - Mobile library construction costs - Social media account management and communications support The Trustees are satisfied that all resources received during the reporting period were utilised wholly in furtherance of the Foundation’s charitable objects. ## **Reserves Policy** The Foundation currently maintains limited reserves as a result of its reliance on voluntary and founder-supported funding. At the year's end, the Foundation held no unspent reserves. The Trustees intend to strengthen future fundraising and partnership mobilisation efforts to support the long-term sustainability and programme expansion of the Foundation. ## **Future Plans** Looking ahead, the Foundation intends to: - Expand mobile library initiatives to reach additional communities - Increase book donation campaigns across schools and community centres - Strengthen literacy outreach in schools and underserved communities - Develop additional partnerships with literacy-focused organisations and donors - Enhance fundraising activity and institutional sustainability - Increase digital literacy advocacy and public engagement activities ## **Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities** The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom accounting standards, including the Charities Act 2011 and the guidance set out in CC16 (Receipts and Payments Accounts). The Trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records, safeguarding the assets of the Foundation and taking reasonable steps to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities. The Trustees confirm that so far as each of them is aware, there is no relevant audit information of which the Foundation’s independent examiner is unaware, and each Trustee has taken all reasonable steps to make themselves aware of any relevant audit information and to establish that the independent examiner is aware of that information. Basis of Preparation** These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 and the guidance contained in the Charity Commission publication CC16 (Receipts and Payments Accounts Pack). This basis is applicable to non-company charities with a gross income of less than £250,000. ## **2. Income** All income received during the reporting period was contributed personally by the Founder, Dr Yakama Manty Jones. No other income was received during the year. ## **3. Expenditure** Expenditure relates directly to literacy promotion activities, educational materials, logistics and transportation, mobile library construction, operational coordination and communications activities undertaken in furtherance of the Foundation’s charitable objects. ## **4. Trustees’ Remuneration and Expenses** No remuneration was paid to any Trustee during the reporting period. No Trustee expenses were claimed or paid. ## **5. Related Party Transactions** The total income of £5,000 was donated personally by the Founder, Dr Yakama Manty Jones. There are no other related party transactions to disclose.
