During the reporting period, MSK Regen undertook activities to preserve and protect public health and advance health education, with a particular focus on musculoskeletal regeneration, rehabilitation and improving patient outcomes. The charity’s principal activities included organising the MSK Regen Conference in London on 29 April 2025. The conference brought together clinicians, researchers, allied health professionals, patients and industry representatives to share current evidence and professional knowledge concerning musculoskeletal treatment, regenerative medicine, surgical innovation and rehabilitation. The charity also supported research directed towards improving the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions. This included specialist gait and motion analysis and work relating to the evaluation of noninvasive and wearable therapeutic approaches. These activities were intended to advance scientific knowledge and support the development of better outcomes for patients.

Section D Achievements and performance
This was MSK Regen’s first reporting period as a registered Charitable **Summary of the main** Incorporated Organisation. It also strengthened the relationships required to support the charity’s future research and educational programmes and established MSK Regen as an emerging convenor within the musculoskeletal regeneration community. Beyond the conference, the charity made important progress across its three principal areas of work. In education, it developed accessible, evidence-based resources to help patients, carers and healthcare professionals understand developments in musculoskeletal regeneration, treatment and recovery. In community support, it advanced patient-focused initiatives, including the Bionic Joint Community, which provides information, encouragement and peer connection for people living with joint replacements and other musculoskeletal conditions. In research, MSK Regen supported work intended to improve the objective assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions. This included the specialist gait and motion analysis supporting the evaluation of innovative, non-invasive and wearable rehabilitation approaches. This work helped establish a foundation for producing clinically relevant evidence capable of improving both professional knowledge and patient care. Taken together, these achievements represent a strong and purposeful beginning for MSK Regen. The charity established a multidisciplinary platform connecting research, clinical practice, education and lived patient experience, while creating the foundations from which its public-benefit activities can continue to grow.

As a newly established charity, MSK Regen has not yet adopted a formal reserves target. The trustees intend to set a reserves policy during the next period as income and expenditure patterns become established. At 30 September 2025 the charity held free reserves (unrestricted funds) of £200.

## **Governing document and legal structure**
MSK Regen is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) established under the Charities Act 2011 and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (number 1211400). It is governed by a constitution based on the Charity Commission's foundation model, adopted on 9 December 2024. As a CIO, the charity is an incorporated body able to hold property, employ staff and enter into contracts in its own name.
Under the foundation model, the charity's only voting members are its charity trustees. This gives the charity a small, single-tier governance structure in which the trustees are collectively responsible for direction, decision-making and control.
## **Decision-making and risk**
The trustees meet as required to set the charity's strategy, approve expenditure and monitor its financial position. Day-to-day scientific and educational direction is informed by a Scientific Advisory Committee whose members bring expertise in orthopaedics, regenerative medicine and histology. As this is the charity's first reporting period, the trustees have focused on establishing sound financial controls, including operating a single charity bank account with Lloyds Bank and reviewing all receipts and payments. The trustees consider the principal risk in the period to have been reliance on a small number of income sources, which they intend to broaden as the charity develops.

## **Charitable objects**
The object of the CIO, as set out in its constitution, is:
_“The preservation and protection of public health and the advancement of health education for the public benefit, in particular by: Advancing and supporting research, training, and public awareness initiatives in musculoskeletal regeneration, aimed at improving patient outcomes and professional knowledge through advanced medical treatments, rehabilitation services, and educational resources.”_
## **Public benefit statement**
The trustees confirm that they have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when planning the charity's activities and setting its priorities for the period. The charity's work benefits the public by advancing knowledge and education in musculoskeletal health and regenerative medicine, by supporting research that seeks to improve patient outcomes, and by making information and support available to patients and the wider community. The benefits are open to the public and any private benefit arising is incidental to carrying out the charitable purposes.
## **Activities in the period**
MSK Regen pursues its object through three main areas of activity:
- Education — developing accessible resources, workshops and public information about musculoskeletal health, recovery and regenerative medicine, so that patients and professionals can better understand and act on emerging evidence.
- Community support — patient-led initiatives, including the Bionic Joint Community, which supports people living with knee or hip replacements and others navigating musculoskeletal conditions.
- Research — supporting clinical studies that advance musculoskeletal regeneration, including work relating to the Achilles Tendinopathy Study, which evaluates non-invasive, wearable therapy approaches.
## **Achievements and performance**
The period under review was MSK Regen's first as a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and the trustees are proud of the ambition and pace with which the charity established itself and began delivering on its mission to advance musculoskeletal health, regenerative medicine and rehabilitation for the public benefit. During the nine months to 30 September 2025 the charity moved quickly from formation to active delivery across its education, community and research aims, while putting in place the governance and financial foundations for sustainable growth.
## **Flagship MSK Regen Conference**
The standout achievement of the period was the delivery of the charity's flagship MSK Regen Conference, held in London on 29 April 2025. Conceived as a landmark gathering for the musculoskeletal field, the conference brought together leading clinicians, researchers, allied health professionals, patients and industry partners to share the latest evidence, exchange ideas and build new collaborations. The programme spanned the full patient journey — from advances in regenerative treatment and surgical

innovation through to rehabilitation and long-term recovery — and created a rare, cross-disciplinary forum in which academic insight, frontline clinical experience and the patient voice were given equal weight.
## **Education and public awareness**
MSK Regen continued to develop accessible, evidence-based resources that translate complex advances in musculoskeletal regeneration into information that patients, carers and professionals can understand and act upon. By raising awareness and improving the quality of decision-making about treatment and recovery, this work extends the reach of the charity's public benefit well beyond those it meets directly.
## **Community and patient support**
The charity advanced its patient-led initiatives, including the Bionic Joint Community, which offers information, encouragement and peer connection to people living with knee and hip replacements and other musculoskeletal conditions. Placing lived experience at the centre of the charity's work ensures that its education and research remain firmly grounded in the priorities of the people it exists to serve.
## **Research**
In support of its research aims, MSK Regen backed studies directed at improving patient outcomes. This advances both patient care and professional knowledge, and reflects the charity's commitment to funding work that has practical benefit for patients.
## **Building strong foundations**
The trustees are grateful to everyone who supported the charity in its first year, including the generosity of individual donors. Taken together, these achievements represent a strong and purposeful start. The trustees confirm that all of the charity's activities during the period were carried out in furtherance of its charitable objects and for the public benefit, and they consider the charity to be well placed to build on this momentum in the year ahead.
## **Financial review**
The results for the period are set out in the financial statements on the following pages. Total receipts were **£9,200.00** , total payments were **£9,000.00** , and the charity recorded a net surplus of **£200.00** . The charity held cash funds of **£200.00** at 30 September 2025, all of which are unrestricted.
## **Principal funding sources**
The charity's income in the period came from donations from organisations and individuals supportive of its aims, together with a significant donation from a trustee. The trustees are grateful to all those who supported the charity during its first period of operation. Further detail is given in the notes to the accounts.
## **Reserves policy**
The trustees recognise the importance of holding sufficient reserves to allow the charity to meet its commitments and continue its work. As the charity is newly established, a formal reserves target has not yet been set; the trustees intend to adopt a reserves policy during the next period as income and expenditure patterns become clearer. ## **Plans for future periods**
In the next period the trustees intend to build on the foundations established during 2025 by: broadening the charity's income base beyond its initial supporters; expanding its educational resources and publicawareness activities in musculoskeletal health; growing the Bionic Joint Community and other patientsupport initiatives; and continuing to support research into musculoskeletal regeneration and rehabilitation. The trustees will also formalise the charity's reserves and risk-management policies as its activities grow.

## **Note 3 — Cash funds**
Cash funds comprise the balance held in the charity's Lloyds Bank current account. The account opened the period with a nil balance and closed at £200, reconciling to the surplus for the period.
## **Note 4 — Trustee remuneration and related party transactions**
No trustee received any remuneration or other benefit from the charity during the period. No expenses were reimbursed to trustees. During the period the charity received a donation of £7,000 from Prof Paul Y. F. Lee, a trustee of the charity; the donation was made on the same terms as any other gift and conferred no benefit on the donor.
