Objectives and activities

Friends of Wellholme Park Vision and Mission

The Friends of Wellholme Park are dedicated to preserving, enhancing, and protecting Wellholme Park in Brighouse, West Yorkshire. As a community-led charitable organisation, we work to maintain this cherished green space, ensuring it remains a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place for people of all ages to enjoy.

Through collaboration with local residents, partners, and Calderdale Council, we aim to nurture a sense of stewardship and pride in the park, ensuring it remains a vibrant, safe, and sustainable place for current and future generations.

Friends of Wellholme Park activities

The charity is administered from its head office in Brighouse, West Yorkshire.

Activities include litter picking, social media awareness, stewardship of the park, and fundraising for the continued upkeep of the park.

Main objectives for the period

This is the first period of operating. The main objectives were:

Public benefit

We have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing our aim and objectives and in planning our future activities. In particular, the trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives they have set.

Friends of Wellholme Park provides clear public benefit by maintaining, enhancing, and promoting Wellholme Park as a safe, accessible, and environmentally rich green space for everyone. Through regular volunteer-led maintenance, litter-picking, environmental improvements, and community events, the charity supports public health, wellbeing, social connection, and environmental education. All activities are open to the community and offered without charge, ensuring that people of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from a well-caredfor public park. By fostering stewardship, supporting biodiversity, and improving public amenities, the charity contributes to a healthier, more cohesive community and ensures that Wellholme Park can be enjoyed by current and future generations.

5

Use of volunteers

Trustees give considerable support to the organisation on a voluntary basis and this is recognised and very much appreciated. Other volunteers offer their time for organised events.

Achievements and Performance

Statutory declaration

The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the commission in exercising their powers or duties.

Summary of the main achievements of the Charity for the period

During 2025, Friends of Wellholme Park continued to advance its charitable purpose through regular environmental and community-focused activity within the park. The charity delivered weekly litter-picking and maintenance sessions, complemented by monthly volunteer events, ensuring the park remained clean, safe, and accessible. May’s Litter Awareness Month, including the themed Zombie Walk, successfully promoted environmental responsibility, while additional activities such as bulb planting supported biodiversity. The group also represented the charity at local events, including the Brighouse Charity Gala, helping raise awareness of the park and the value of community stewardship.

Operational capacity was strengthened through the purchase of tools and materials funded by a Calderdale Ward Forum Grant, alongside the addition of a gazebo to support public engagement and event participation. Recyclable materials collected during volunteer sessions were donated to another local charity to support their fundraising. Significant progress was also made on the proposed Community Garden project, with initial planning and consultation work completed to prepare for future development. These achievements collectively demonstrate the charity’s ongoing commitment to enhancing Wellholme Park for the benefit of the whole community.

At the end of the period the Charity held cash at bank of just over £405 all of which was unrestricted funds. We aim to hold at least £200 in reserves.
