• (HARIIY COmMISoN PURNIIATLI 6 HI&MBRID13E GRE& Burnham and Highbridge Green Team CIO Charity No: 1210896 Trustees, Annual Report for the period from 1511112024 to 31103/2026 Objertives and Artivities Purposes of the charity (as set out in governing document) The CIO was fornied for the promotion of the consepiation. proteciion and improvement of the natural environment and prudent use of natural resources for the benefit of the public of Burnham-on-sea, Highbridge and villages within a 5 mile radius- Charities Commission Guidance The Trustees have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and apply these in setting the CIO'S objectives and organising activities. Maln activities In relation to those purposes The CIO has pursued its objectives by: Promoting and supporting local organisations and groups engaged in environmentally positive work. Provision of insurance cover for the Burnham and Berrow Beach Clean Group and Berrow Conserwation Group. Cross-promotion with the local Repair Cafe. Co-management of the Tree Equity Projett to encourage planting of trees to benefit all areas and social groups. Conducting research and sharing information relating to positive behaviours and activitie5. o Survey of local walking and cycling behaviours and routes that people use. Attendance at local events to share information about how individuals can get involved. Carrying out programmes and activities, directly or through funding that have an environmental benefit. "Foster a Tree- progrdmme to improve tree cover in the area. Seeking access to land and facilities for a community garden and "library of things." Lobbying local government on matters which align with the CIO'S objectives. Initiated the local Bus User Group, which we continue to SUPPOrt with cross promotion and funding for meetings. Achievements and Performance The beach clean groups have been able to continue with monthly cleans, with our support through the provision of insurance cover and the conservation group has been able to continue monitoring wildlife on the Berrow Dunes SSSI. The Repair Cafe repairs 55-60 items each month across the 2 days of regular operation and occasional pop-ups., preventing them from being discarded.
Publicising the Donate IT scheme has helped to prevent 40-50 items of electronic equipment going to landfill The Repair Cafe group has conducted 56 thermal imaging scan5 of households to identify areas of heat loss, supporting occupants to save money and carbon intensive energy use by improving insulation. Over 100 respondents to the walking cycling survey have shared information about their habits and over 30 have offered to share routes and information about routes could be improved. Analysis and mapping will continue into 2026. The "Foster a Tree- campaign placed 30 trees donated by the 5omerset Tree Officer with domestic households. so they can be stewarded before permanent planting. In April 2026 a licence has been signed with Somerset Council for access to land at a peppercom rent to establish a Community Garden. At the time of writing, a good Start has been made on involving other community groups and schools in developing this garden. The Bus User Group has been part of successftjl lobbying resulting in routes running later into the evening, newer electric buses on local routes and digttisation of access to a local flexible bus service ("The Slinky") making it more flexible and responsive. Financial Review The charity receives funds through donations and grant income from local government or community or8anisations. Funds are expended through grants. materials and resour5 for charitable activities and support costs such a5 insurance and promotional materials. During the year income of £1,458 was received. £33 was spent on charitable activities and £560 was spent on support costs. This has been the first period of financial operations. so opening reserves were NIL. At the end of the period the CIO held reserves of £865 in an unrestricted fund. The level of funds available does not warrant engagement in any investment activities. There are no funds in deficit and no concerns over continuing as a going concem. Structure, Governance and Management Constitution The charity is formed as a Charitable Interest Organisation (CIO) and govemed by a Constitution dated 8th November 2024. Selertion of Trustees The initial Trustees comprised the Members who formed the CIO. Subsequently vacancies are agreed by the Trustees and advertised through meetings. press releases and social media. Candidates are assessed for suitability by existing Trustees.
