## **Objectives and Activities:** 

Exploding Words Festivals is an educational charity based in Cornwall, dedicated to bringing the magic of literature to life for primary and secondary school children with particular focus on areas of under privilege We bring our day-long festivals to local venues across the region, immersing students in creative workshops led by renowned authors, poets, and illustrators, sparking curiosity, boosting confidence, and empowering young minds 

## **Achievements and Performance:** 

In our first period of operation we ran 3 events at; The Eden Project, Cast Theatre (Helston) and Penwith College (Penzance), reaching over 350 pupils and teachers from local primary schools. Each pupil received a free book of their choice, signed by one of our authors, at the end of the day. 

In addition we ran a creative writing completion for primary schools in Penzance. 

## **Financial Review & performance:** 

We were delighted to obtain a significant start up donation from the Pheonix Tanner Trust (through Cornwall Community Foundation) as well as support from other contributors and in total raised £14,086 during the period. We only charge a nominal amount to each school attending (£100 each, totalling £1,700) and hope in the future to make our events completely free to the schools. Our costs totalled £9,283 of which authors (£6,066) and books for our attendees (£2,704) were our largest expenditure. We have no employees and admin expenses are limited to insurances and safeguarding courses (£385). 



All reserves at the end of the year are carried forward towards future events. 

## **Plans for future periods;** 

In our second year we have  run one event at Callywith College, Bodmin and have events booked at Eden, Sterts Theatre (Liskeard) and Penwith College and further events proposed in Camborne and Truro when further funds are secured.
