Objectives and Activities
The objects of the CIO are the prevention or relief of poverty by promoting sustainable economic development within economically and socially disadvantaged communities, in particular but not exclusively in developing countries, through the provision of grants, social investments, education, training or other forms of assistance designed to enable individuals and communities to improve their incomes, achieve economic growth and/or be self sufficient. ‘Sustainable economic development’ means economic development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
In planning our activities for the period, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustee meetings
Achievements and Performance & Financial Review
The charity was registered on the 4[th] October 2024 and has not been active during the period.
Structure, Governance and Management
The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and was incorporated as the intended successor entity to the Genesis Charitable Trust (charity registration number 1148643), as the more appropriate legal structure for the Foundation's work.
During the period from incorporation to 31 December 2025, the CIO had no income, expenditure or grant-making activity and accordingly these accounts have been prepared on a dormant basis.
The delay in commencing operations reflected the time required to obtain Charity Commission approval for updated charitable objects for the Genesis Charitable Trust - a prerequisite for the lawful transfer of assets to the CIO.
The trust deed of the Genesis Charitable Trust was amended on 5 September 2025 to align its charitable objects with those of the CIO.
The CIO became operational with effect from 1 January 2026, from which date all new grantmaking, social investment and operational activities are being conducted through the CIO.
