Report of the Trustees for the year ended 2nd September 2025
The trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 2nd September 2025 and confirm they comply with the Charities Act 1993, as amended by the Charities Act 2006, the trust deed and the Charities SORP 2005.

Structure, governance and management
Governing document
Milton Keynes East Muslim Community is constituted as an Incorporated Organisation (“the CIO”) is Milton Keynes East Muslim Community (hereinafter called “MKEMC”). It is governed by our trust last updated on 1st of October 2024.
Organisational Structure
The charity trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits.
The trustees meet together regularly and are responsible for all decisions taken in relation to running the charitable causes and educational activities provided by the charity. There are currently no sub-committees or volunteers who have been registered.
The selection process of new trustees is detailed in our constitution and will be subject to the person’s skillset and value they bring. The process in selecting of new trustees will be voted amongst the existing trustees with the deciding vote for the chairman.
Management roles
The charity has assigned distinct roles to existing trustees which cover event management, educational development, financial records, marketing and a general secretary.
Objectives and activities
Our mission
Milton Keynes is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK, with significant development across its eastern suburbs, including Broughton, Brooklands, Glebe Farm, Eagles Farm, and Woburn Sands. Over 3,000 Muslims now live in these areas, yet existing Islamic centres are largely located along the city spine, making regular access difficult due to distance and increasing traffic.
Our charity was established to meet this growing need by creating a local community hub that serves the spiritual, social, and educational needs of residents. Through the development of a mosque, madrassah, and community facilities, we aim to strengthen local connections, support families, and nurture a thriving, sustainable community in East Milton Keynes.
Our objectives
The object of charity are set out in the charity’s constitution and are summarised as follows:
To advance the faith and religious practices of Islam in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area for the benefit of the public through the holding of prayer meetings, lectures and public celebration of religious festivals in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah as accepted by the four Sunni Schools of thought.
The provision of recreational facilities and activities in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life for those persons in need of such facilities and activities
The advancement of education for the public benefit concerning the teachings and practices of Islam
Our Strategy
We want to acquire/build a place for our community where we have a welcoming venue for our Muslim community or those who wish to know more about our faith that can gather together about their religion and worship.
We also wish to offer the best Islamic education in our local area by conducting in person classes covering young children and adults. This is an important pillar in our constitution. These activities are provided at very favourable rate to the community helping grow the community further.
Currently all our objectives and activities are ran through a rented premises where we have tried to negotiate a favourable rate but challenges have been met and we continue to struggle to find a place viable for our needs long-term.
Activities
The charity offers a few range of activities with the hope to expand further covering distinct members of the community.
Religious activities
Our charity organises weekly Friday prayer at the local community hall. We currently average around 100 people every Friday and during the holiday season, the number grows more.
The charity also organises weekly classes for children. These classes are aimed to introduce Islamic teaching through reading and understanding with key emphasis on improving daily habits. With understanding bestowed from the Holy book, children are able to better understand and navigate the world in a pious and humble way.
The charity was able to arrange an Iftar event during the holy month of Ramadan. On this day, the community was invited to bring food and break their fast together and perform prayer in congregation. The event was attended by around 150 people.
Community activities
The charity is able to organise community events through the local community hall. Events such as celebrating Eid, organise a summer sports day (with Picnic).
These events usually have an average attendance around 130-150 people.
Our aim for the next financial year is to introduce more community activities and develop key partnerships with local business owners and provide harmony and further community led events.
Financial Review
Principal funding sources
The charity’s main source of income is giving which is collected at Friday prayers. This has continued to be the main driver for the charity to retain funds. Although the economic conditions effecting our local community cannot go un-noticed, the voluntary contributions have remained generous and encouraging. Our plan is to introduce restricted funds which will be kept separate for our Mosque Project.
The charity also collects fees for running an after school Madrasah for young children. The fees collected are invested back into hiring the school, buying educational material and providing relief for travel expenses for select teachers.
Investment Policy
The charity does not have long term or short term investments. The money is kept in a current account where no interest is earned. We plan on discussing in our next AGM, the use of reserve funds.
Plans for future periods
The charity wishes to invest more in our Madrasah where we would like to expand into more days, engage with more volunteers and focus on the child’s religious teachings. We plan to maintain our existing community activities and look to build a better social media platform to out-reach more community members and offer more public harmony.
