During the year, H6rgditary Braln Aneurysm Support IHBASI dellvered a range of activities to
support indlviduals and famllies affected by braln aneurysms. p8rticul8rly those wlth a
hèreditary rlsk, and to lrnprove awaréness and understandlng of the condltion.
The charlty developed 8nd publlshed a 8ulte of 8ccesslbl& resources deslgngd to help
individuals and families navigate diagnosis, screening and treatment. These included the HBA
Patient Guide, practlcal lifestyle guldgnce through the"Howto Llve Well" 8uide, and a dedicated
resourcé for young peop18 to help them understand heredltary rlsk and famlly hlstory.
HBAS expanded Its communSty 8UPPOrt and èngegement through Inltlatlve8 Includlng the
launch of Its onllne peer support programme, 'Braln Aneurysm FTlends" 8nd tha publlcatlon of
patient stories and case studl88 to r8du¢e Iso18tlon and conna¢t famlll88 facing slmllar
challenges.
In 2025 the charlty Also launched Br8in Aneurysms and Beyond. the UK'S first podcast
dedlcated to braln aneurysms, provldlng expert inlorm8tion, patlent experlences and practi¢al
guldance to a wlder aud18nce.
The charltyworked to ensure the volce of people affected byhereditary brain aneurysmswas
represented in national dlscu881ons about neurological and rare dlsease pollcy. Thls Included
engagement wlth parliamentary events, contrlbutions to NHS consult8tiong. and p8rticlp8tion
In sector networks end medical conferences.
HBAS contlnued to strengthen its research and cllnic81 partnershlp8. actlng as a petlent partner
in malor national $tudles explorlng Eneurysm risk and genetlcs, and supporting work to improve
the evidence base and understandlng of hereditary brain an8urysm8.
Through these actlvltles, 81ongside publlc awareness work and digit81 outreach, the charity has
contlnued to provlde Inforrnation, advocacy and support for individuals 8nd familles affected by
brsln 8neurysm and those with Increased herèditary rlsk.

Theyoung Persons Guide: Because heredltary aneurysms gffect generatlons, we
created speciflc resources foryoung people to help them understand their famlly hlstory
without belng overwhelmed by it. It was designed by a young person for a young person,
brldging the generatlonal gep.
Podcast: In 2025, we launched Braln Aneurysms and Beyond-the UK'sflrst podcast

community.
Luke Shotter, our flrst EuDd[al￿. , completed 12 challenges in 12 months in
memory of his dad steve.who died from a brain aneurysm rupture in 2024 aged 61.
Luke's challenges Included running 1,OOOkm across the year. climbing Ben Nevis with
his mum and brothers, the Cardiff Half Marathon. and a marathon in a Santa suit
finishing attha gates ofwest Ham's London Stadium-the club he and Steve supported

through a vsrlety of initiatives.
HBA Support: Hlke tor Hop6: In June 2025. we h81d our InauguralELWoLEty- a 9-mile
sponsored hike to Klnder Scout on the Pennine Way In the Peak District. Twenty fundraisers
tackled the route, led by brain aneurysm survivor and qualified mountain leader Andy Motch,
ralsing over£￿a.
Total Ralsed: Through all the strands of ourf undraislng, we ralsed over £100.000 and directly
invested back into patlent resources. charlty support and research.

Review of the charity's financial position
HBA Support ended the financial period In a stable and positive position, with total income of
£139,727, the majority ofwhich camefrom communityfundr8ising and donations. Expenditure
for the period totalled £136,564, covering both charitable actlvlties and the costs of ralslng
funds.
After all costs, th8 ch8rlty reported a net surplus of £3,163, which has been carried forward a8
unrestrictÈd rè8BNes. This surplus provides an Important early foundatlon for financial
reslli8nc8 as the charity contlnues to grow.
The accounts show that the charlty Is operatlng wlthln Its means, wlth Income broadly aligned
to expenditure and all r8Strl¢ted funds fully 8pplied to their intended purposes. The reliance on
comrnunity-generated Income Is ref lected In the high proportion of donations within the total.
and the ¢h8rlty contlnues to monitor this closely as part of Its wlderflnanclal rlsk man8gement.
Over811, the yeer-end posltlon demonstrates careful stewerd8hlp of funds, effectiv8 cost
control, and a clear commltm8nt to dlrectlng resources towards patlent support, organ18atlonal
development, and research engagement.

Heredltory Braln Aneurysm Supportwas est8bllshed In September2024 es e CIOtr8nsltionlng
from a Community Interest Company and is In Its aarlydevelopment phase wlth no 8taff co8t$
orflxed agsets.
The ¢h8rlty wlll hold three months of oper8tlng cost8 (worked out at the start of each f Inanclal
yearl of unrestrlcted reseNe8. Our income and expendlture are currently modest. and our
abllity to build reserves is constrained. However, we r8cognlse the Importance of developing 8
sustainabla re8erv6s posltlon over tlme.
The charlty held negiiglble raseTve$ at the perlod and, Our inltlal reseNe8 target Is to hold
unrestricted f ree reserves equlvalent to three months of cole operating costs. Based on our
current budget and worked out as part of our budgeting process at the start of each flnancial
year. We recognlse th8t thls may tak8 time to achieve.
We are cornmltted to reachlngthls number bythe end ofthe 2026flnancialyearfor HBA
Support. We wlll review this target annually 8$ the organlsatlon grows.
The charity's principaL sources of funds
HBASupport's incom8 in 2025 wasgenerated predominantlythrough community-led
fundraising, with the majority of funds raised by indlviduals and familles dlrectly affected by
brain 8neurysm loss or survival. Ourfirst Fundraising Champion, Luke Shotter, completed
twelve challenges in twelve months in memory of his father, raising significant support through
activities ranglng from a 1,OOOkm running challeng8 to a marathon cornpleted in a Sant8 Sult at
West Ham's London Stadlum. Thefiiends andf8rnilyof KirstyGilmartin continuedtheir

dedicated fundraising efforts. contributlng more than £13,000 through a series of community
initiatives, AlongsSde these individual efforts, our inaugural Hike for Hope broughttogether
twenty participants for a sponsored 9-mile ascent of Kinder Scout, raislng over £5,000. A¢ross
811 fundr8ising strands, the charity raised over £100.000, which was directly reinvested into
patient resources, organisational development, and research support to advance our
charitable objectives.

charity continues to grow and demand for Its work increases, ensuring long-term financial
SU8tain8bility remains an important prlority. Income generation and financial sustalnability
havé therefore been identifled 8$ strategic objectlves for the charlty. Wlth th8 trustees working
to strengthen 8nd dlversify Income str88ms to support the continued dellvery and development
of the charlty's 8Ctivit19S.
The charlty also beneflt8 from the signlflc8nt contrlbutlon of voluntger8 and speciallst 8xpertlse.
The trustee8 mitig8te any 88SOC18t8d rlsk$ through strong governance arrangements,
collaboration wlth clinical and rese8ich partners, and the development of a wider network of
8UPPOrters and gdvlsor8. The trustees are satlsflèd that approprlate systems and controls are In
place to manage these rlsks effectively.

The charlty Is governed by th8 Foundatlon CIO Con8tltutlon. The charlty Is a Charitable
Incorporated Org8nisatlon.
HBA Support's tfustees are appolnted on the ba8ls of their personal experlence, prof8ssIDn81
skllls, networks, and conn@ctlon to the charlty's mlsslon, ensuring the b08rd refl8Ct8 both the
Ilved reallty of brain aneurysm patients and familles, and the strategic expertlse requlred for
effectlve governance. The board is intentlonally div9rse, brlnglng together patients, family
members, worlQ-le8dlng researchers and surgeons, ond trustees wlth strong flnancial,
governance, and organisatSonal leadership experlence.
