Objectives and Activities

Thame Community Shed provides a workshop facility based in a barn on the site of Chinnor Rugby Club, OX9 3JL, for those over the age of 18 to engage in practical activity, creating, making, repairing, or mending. The workshop has most of the tools necessary to carry out such work and a significant amount of woodworking and metalworking machinery to enable larger projects to be undertaken.

Thame Community Shed is a registered charity whose main purpose is the advancement of social inclusion, health and well-being of adults, from the age of 18, from all backgrounds and living within Thame and the surrounding areas. This is achieved by creating, developing and maintaining a workshop facility which offers the members the opportunity to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities of their choice. This reduces the isolation of men in the area, contributing to their physical and mental wellbeing and develops the capacity of members to share their skills and knowledge with others in a safe and friendly environment. Many community based projects have been completed over the period.

During this reporting period the Shed membership has steadily increased to 89 members and the opening hours have been extended to 5 mornings a week with approximately 10-15 members attending on each day.

A significant donation of £7000 was received following the sale of a Burrell traction engine which had been a key Shed project during 2024.

5

A number of projects were undertaken for Chinnor Rugby Club including a new bin store, barn gates, and many improvements for a new marquee for entertaining.

Projects across the Thame area included Lord Williams Festival Choir advertising boards, Hedgehog trail signs for 21[st] Century Thame, and many repairs to chairs and tools.

The Shed flooring was also re-levelled using a self levelling compound. This and the walls were then painted.

A successful application was made to HMRC to register for gift aid and the first claim for this was made.

The wood stores and storage container were also reorganized to increase capacity.

Several visits were hosted for people running or who were looking to start new sheds.
