Objectives and Activities

Para 1.17 and 1.19	During the period from September 2024 to April 2025, Brighter Grays delivered bereavement and emotional wellbeing support to children and young people aged 0-21 and their families, in line with the charity’s objects. The charity’s primary activity during this period was the delivery of fortnightly bereavement support groups in the local community. These sessions provided a safe, inclusive space for children and young people to explore grief through creative activities, gentle discussion, and peer support. Activities were designed to be age appropriate and trauma informed, enabling participants to express feelings, build coping strategies, and create meaningful items to take home in memory of the person or pet they had lost. Alongside group provision, the charity offered one to one support where appropriate, responding flexibly to individual need. Families were able to self-refer, with no eligibility criteria, referral requirements, or postcode restrictions. To remove barriers to access, the charity operated a travel sponsorship scheme for families across West Yorkshire who were unable to afford transport or were unable to drive. During the reporting period, Brighter Grays also developed and maintained a Mental Health Library, providing free access to resources for children, young people,

		parents, carers, and professionals. These resources supported emotional literacy, grief understanding, and self-regulation outside of sessions. In April 2025, the charity began delivering bereavement support within school settings. This marked the start of a new strand of work aimed at reaching children and young people who may otherwise struggle to access community based support. School sessions focused on emotional regulation, grief education, and individual support, delivered in partnership with school safeguarding teams.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.	Para 1.20	During the reporting period, Brighter Grays supported children, young people, and families who were experiencing bereavement and emotional distress, many of whom had not previously accessed specialist support. By offering self-referral and removing eligibility and postcode restrictions, the charity increased access to early, preventative support. Children andPara 1.41isolation, and increased confidence in talking about bereavement. The creative and relational nature of the charity’s work enabled beneficiaries to build meaningful memories and connections, helping them feel less alone in their grief. The introduction of school based support in April 2025 represented a significant step in widening the charity’s reach, enabling earlier identification of bereavement related needs and strengthening collaboration with education and safeguarding partners. This contributed to wider public benefit by supporting children’s emotional wellbeing within their everyday environments and reducing pressure on families and statutory services.

Financial Review
