Hearts of Oak. Trustee Report2025 The year started in Springwith the usual paintlng. varnishing and anti foul application. In addition workwas done on the engine and electrics. with overdue attention paid to paintingthe internalfloorboafds. As usual this workwas led by Les. Steve and Alan. Work proceeded on a newyard traller. The wheels and axles were purchased and delivered to Martin Raynerwho had previously undertaken to build the trailerfor us. Hearts of Oak was successfully launched in May and the old trailer removed to be Gut up forscrap. Unfortunately sailingwas very Ilmited due to inclementweather. Many sailing days were planned and then had to be cancelled. A sailingweek was planned in June to give the possibility of travelling further afield, with the Isle of Man being the preferred destination. Once again the weather intervened and we even struggled to manage a couple of local days. The highlight thereforewas the Barrow Maritime Festival. We entered the outer dock on the Thursday and moved to the inner dock on Friday. We managed to secure Hearts of Oak safelyto a quayside. in a position thatwould allow us to sail around the dock. as requested bythe organisers. This meantthatwe were also able to take members on board. lo enjoy a sail. The period after the Festival, mid August to mid September, as usual saw little sailing because of the weather again and holidays. We had hoped to bring Hearts of Oak up to Ulverston again but we have notyet managed to lay a mooring and the trip needs about f ive days of settled weather aligning with suitable iides. Unfortunately. the new trailer has been delayed but we are hopeful that itwill be ready by mid October and we can then lay up Hearts of Oak. Whilewaitingforthe trailer. the seemingly sound mooring strop parted in a gale and il was thanks to the intervention of the Lifeboat Engineer. who spotted the problem and secured herwith an anchorthat a serious problem was averted. We obviously need to replace the mooring strop more regularly even though it might. seem fine.
