## **Objectives and activities**

## **Charitable purposes**

The charity exists for the prevention or relief of poverty for the public benefit by establishing fresh-water wells and providing clothing to people in need in remote and impoverished parts of the world.

## **Main activities during the period**

During this reporting period the charity focused on one important project. The project was fundraising for. Delivering a community water well in Pemba, Zanzibar. The community did not have access to reliable, safe and free drinking water. The charity raised donations. The donations were raised through a public appeal. The appeal was promoted through GoFundMe. The funds were received through PayPal Giving Fund. The money was used for drilling, a water tank, a pump, building materials, labour. Transport and associated

## **Public benefit**

The trustees confirm that they had regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit when planning and carrying out the charity's activities. The completed well provides free community access to water and is estimated to benefit approximately 3,000 people. The project directly furthered the charity's purpose by reducing hardship associated with unreliable access to safe drinking water.

## **Grant-making and social investment**

The charity did not operate a general grant-making programme and made no social investments during the period. Funds were applied directly to the delivery of the Pemba water-well project.

## **Achievements and performance**

The main achievement of the period was the completion and operation of the Pemba community water well. The charity successfully converted restricted public donations into a completed water-access project serving an estimated 3,000 beneficiaries free of charge.

- The project was fully completed and operating by the end of the reporting period.

- The well addressed an identified need for consistent, reliable and safe drinking water.

- Local contractors and community representatives supported delivery and local oversight.

- Two unpaid local volunteers contributed relevant technical and community knowledge, including electrical experience and experience working with ZAWA in Zanzibar.

- No material delays, major problems or unexpected costs were reported during the project.

## **Financial review**

|Financial summary|Amount|
|---|---|
|Restricted donations received|£5,705|
|Charitable expenditure on the Pemba water-well project|£5,705|
|Funds held at the end of the period|£0|

The charity's principal source of funds was the restricted online appeal for the Pemba water-well project. All funds received during the period were restricted to that project and were fully applied to the charitable purpose. The receipts and payments accounts therefore show no closing cash balance.

## **Reserves policy**

The charity did not hold general reserves at the year end because the funds received were restricted to the water-well project and were fully applied to that purpose. The trustees intend to continue operating on a project-by-project basis, ensuring that funding is identified before significant commitments are made. The reserves position will be reviewed as the charity develops.

## **Financial controls and principal risks**

The principal financial and operational risks related to controlling overseas project costs, ensuring that funds reached the intended project and confirming that the well was completed for community use. Expected project costs were discussed by the trustees, and confirmed costs were reviewed before payments were

## **Structure, governance and management**

## **Plans for future periods**

The trustees intend to continue developing practical projects that relieve poverty and hardship. Potential future work includes additional fresh-water wells, clothing-support projects and other poverty-relief activities that fall within the charity's governing document. Projects will continue to be selected according to evidenced community need, public benefit, affordability and the charity's ability to oversee delivery responsibly.

## **Trustees' responsibilities and approval**

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the charity's accounts in accordance with applicable law and Charity Commission requirements. The trustees have approved this report and authorised it for submission with the charity's accounts.
