To promote working together, not against each other. Whether it’s another rescue, a vet practice, a reptile shop or anything in between, all of us working together gives a more holistic approach to animal welfare, and the animals benefit! ## Activities and Achievements Direct Rehomes The rescue has been at capacity for most of this year. Our work doesn’t stop because of it! Although they are never our first choice, direct rehomes enable people needing to surrender their animals to still feel supported. We are proud of our quick response times to difficult situations such as domestic violence, antisocial behaviour and homelessness. Our work with emergency services, local authorities and housing associations has grown a lot this year. Photos courtesy of @cattys_reptiles ## Case Studies ## Miss Jones ## The Smith Family Contacted us explaining she was fleeing domestic violence. A person had sadly passed away in their home. Needed to rehome a large number of aquatic species and a bearded dragon, with small windows of time in which it was safe to do so. Discovered in the flat were a total of seven animals - three of which were within the charities remit of support. Richmond Exotics attended, and did not leave until each animal had somewhere to go. The Smith family felt supported and relieved, and each animals welfare was ensured. Risk assessment came first. Within an hour of Miss Jones initial phone call, we had members of the community on the way to collect the aquatic animals. Richmond Exotics was able to attend early the following morning to remove the bearded dragon. Miss Jones was incredibly grateful and relieved to be able to escape her situation knowing her animals were safe. All animals were rescued safely within 12 hours of Miss Jones initial phone call. ## Case Studies Local Authority/ housing associations. A huge part of our work this year has been overhauling the way that tortoises are adopted out of the rescue. We have a new ‘two option’ approach.
