## **Report of the trustees for the year ended 31 March 2025**
Throughout 2024–2025, Abba Father's House in Jinja, Uganda, has continued to stand alongside some of the most vulnerable widows and children in the community during a season of sustained challenge. The ongoing economic uncertainties, both globally and within Uganda, have placed a significant strain on families and on charitable organisations such as ours. Reduced donor income and the careful use of reserves required difficult but responsible decisions. Yet, through God’s grace and the faithfulness of our supporters, the work has continued, and the children in our care have remained protected, nurtured, and hopeful.
The reality in Uganda remains sobering. Economic instability, unemployment, and rising living costs leave many widows struggling to provide even basic needs for their children. For orphans and vulnerable children, the risk of being trapped in cycles of poverty is ever-present. Abba Father's House exists to interrupt that cycle. We do so not only by providing shelter, food, education, and care, but by walking with each child and widow towards dignity, resilience, and a future filled with purpose.
In line with government policy encouraging family-based care, some children were resettled with extended family members during the year, and they were replaced by other vulnerable children. This was undertaken carefully and prayerfully, with continued financial, educational, and pastoral support provided from Abba Father's House. These children are doing well, and our responsibility to them remains ongoing. Our support ensures that returning home does not mean being left alone.
Despite global uncertainty, the children continue to flourish. They are progressing in school, growing in confidence, and developing practical skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Skills training remains central to our mission, particularly for older children, equipping them with sellable, lifesustaining abilities and breaking dependence on handouts. This approach brings lasting change, not temporary relief.
Recognising the importance of strong foundations, we strengthened our local leadership this year by appointing additional staff and committee members. This has enhanced safeguarding, accountability, and the quality of care provided to both children and widows. Trustees, local leaders, staff, and volunteers work closely together to ensure that every child is known, valued, and supported holistically—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
The provision of separate homes for boys and girls has greatly improved daily life within Abba Father's House, offering privacy, stability, and compliance with government guidelines. The home is peaceful and settled. The perimeter wall continues to provide vital security, protecting children, livestock, and property, and giving caregivers and children alike a sense of safety that was previously lacking.
Local income-generating projects remain a key pillar of sustainability. These projects not only help fund the home but also create employment and provide affordable food for the surrounding community. Eggs, milk, meat, and mushrooms are sold locally at reduced prices, supporting families while strengthening community relationships. The cow project has been especially impactful, providing fresh milk for the children and enabling the construction of a biogas digester. This has reduced cooking costs, improved hygiene, and significantly lowered mosquito activity, contributing to better health outcomes for the children.

Older children continue to gain practical skills in construction, plumbing, and basic electrical work—skills that foster independence, confidence, and employability. These opportunities transform lives, helping young people leave Abba Father's House not just cared for, but prepared.
Widows’ projects remain close to the heart of our work although they are fewer in number since the covid 19 pandemic but we’re working on increasing the numbers. Through ongoing support, skills training, and income-generating initiatives, widows are being empowered to provide for themselves and their families with dignity. This support brings stability not only to individual households but to the wider community.
Financial governance and accountability have continued to improve in line with our strategic plan, ensuring that every donation is stewarded wisely. Regular newsletters keep donors informed and connected to the lives they are helping to transform.
## **Looking Ahead**
The need remains great. Economic hardship and lack of opportunity continue to place widows and orphans at risk. Yet hope is stronger still. With your continued partnership, Abba Fathers House will keep providing care, protection, education, and opportunity—offering not just survival, but a future.

## **Change in Charity Registration Number**
On 3 September 2024 Abba Father's House was re-registered with the Charities Commission under registration number 1209857. This was due to the previous registration (number 1118832) being for an old limited company that the charity had previously operated under. As there have been no operational changes to the organisation itself and to provide clarity for the reader, accounts have been prepared and filed for the full year to 31 March 2025 without creating any arbitrary split of accounting periods due to the new registration.
The results for the year are set out in the financial statements on pages 5 to 7.

## **Independent examiner's report on the unaudited accounts to the trustees of ABBA FATHER'S HOUSE**
I report on the accounts for the year to 31 March 2025 set out on pages 5 to 7.
## **Respective responsibilities of the trustees and examiner**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under the Charities Act 2011 (the Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- Examine the accounts (under section 145 of the Act)
- Follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act); and
- State whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner's statement**
My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes a consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act
have not been met; or
- 2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 Accounting Policies**
## **Basis of preparation**
The accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis, which does not take into account accruals etc. nor movements in non-monetary assets, and in accordance with the SORP.
The accounts have also been prepared in accordance with the Charity Commission guidance "Accounting for the Smaller Charity" and comply with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.
## **Incoming resources**
Voluntary income including donations, gifts and legacies that provide core funding or are of general nature are recognised where there is entitlement, certainty of receipt and the amount can be measured with sufficient reliability.
## **Resources expended**
Expenditure is recognised when a liability is incurred. Contractual arrangements and performance related grants are recognised as goods or services are supplied. Charitable activities include the expenditure associated with the maintenance of the Abba Father's House home in Uganda, and the provision of food, clothing, care and education to the resident children.
## **Irrecoverable VAT**
All resources expended are classified under activity headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Irrecoverable VAT is charged against the category of resource expended for which it was incurred.
## **Funds structure**
Restricted income funds will be maintained to account for situations where a donor requires that a donation must be spent on a particular purpose or where funds have been raised for a specific purpose.
All other funds are unrestricted income funds.
