Activities

The charity's activities are designed to:1. advance citizenship and community development through promotion of the voluntary sector;2. promote the efficiency and effectiveness of charities; 3. promote effective use of charitable resources for the benefit of the public.Activities are undertaken across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Objects: The Objects of the Charity are for the public benefit and specifically restricted to the advancement of citizenship and community development, by contributing to the encouragement and fostering of the ideal of service in the public interest, including the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through fellowship in the ideal of service, through:(a) the promotion of the voluntary sector for the benefit of the public by:(i) liaising between charities (including but not limited to Rotary Foundation of the United Kingdom), voluntary organisations, government agencies and other groups and acting as a representative of the voluntary sector on relevant issues;(ii) identifying needs in the voluntary sector and establishing projects or policies to address them, including but not limited to;(A) providing training, conferences and seminars on subjects relevant to the efficiency of the voluntary sector;(B) providing information to the press and the public on the operation of, or problems encountered by, the voluntary sector;(C) providing advice and information on fund-raising techniques appropriate for voluntary organisations and charities;(D) providing services such as legal, accountancy and management advice services to the voluntary sector; and(E) assisting in the administration of funding programmes to charities and voluntary organisations, monitoring for grants, recommending grants, assisting in applications for grants; and(iii) advising businesses on charitable giving and encouraging employees to participate in voluntary work; and(b) the promotion of the efficiency and effectiveness of charities and the effective use of charitable resources for the benefit of the public by:(i) co-ordinating both existing charitable and non-charitable agencies that have a common goal of providing charitable services or relief to a particular group of people;(ii) liaising with, and acting as a forum for the exchange of information between, agencies working in a given field in order to identify gaps in the range of charitable services available to the groups of people they serve; and(iii) providing advice and information to agencies in the field.For the purposes of the Objects:(a) the voluntary sector means charities and voluntary organisations; (b) charities means organisations, which are established for purposes which are exclusively charitable under the law of England and Wales (whether or not registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales); and (c) voluntary organisations means independent organisations, which are established for purposes that add value to the community as a whole, or a significant section of the community, and which are not permitted by their constitution to make a profit for private distribution. Voluntary organisations do not include local government or other statutory authorities; andin each case insofar as they contribute to the encouragement and fostering of the ideal of service in the public interest.
