TRUSTEES, REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2026
The Trustees present their report together with the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2026.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the recommendations of Statement of
Recommended Practice Accounting & Reporting by Charities and comply with the requirement5 of
the charity's scheme by order of the Charity Commission dated 18 August 2024.
Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities
Charity law requires the Trustees to prepare a Receipts and Payrnents account and a Statement of
Assets and Liabilitie5 for each financial year which properly presents the charity's receipts and
payments for the year together with its assets and liabilities at the end of the period, and adequately
distinguish any material special trust or other restricted fund of the charity- In preparing these financial
statements the trustees are required to..
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them con515tently-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent..
state whether the policies adopted are in accordance with the appropriate Statement of
Recommended Practice oll Accounting by Charitles and the Accounting Regulations and
with applicable accounting standards, subject to any material departures disclosed and
explained in the financial statements.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which diselose, with reasonable
accuracy at any time, the financial position of the charity, and to enable them to ensure that the
financial statement5 comply with applicable Accounting Standards and Statement5 of Recommended
Practice and the regulations made under s130 of the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and
detection of fraud or other irregularities.
Aims and Oblectives
Advancing the education of persons under 25 years, and in exceptional circumstances, those under 40
years, who are resident in the Isle of Wight, by providing financièl assistance 15 such ways as the

TRUSTEES. REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2026
Policies
The charity adopts the following as guidelines..
Reserves - A minimum of the previous year's grants.
Grant makinB - Our Grant and Education Subcommittee meet three times a year (January, April and
September) to consider applications received.
Investrnent5 Advice is sought where appropriate.
Risk management
The Trustees regularly review the major strategic, business and operational risks to which the charity is
exposed, and confirm that Systems have been e5tabli5hed which enable the necessary Steps to be
taken to lessen these risks.
Results for the year
This has been a year of transition for the Charity to reflect our CIO (Charitable Incorporated
Organi5ationl Status. We are now in the final elements of transferring everything to the CIO.
The Trustees met on four occasions- three times in person and once via Zoom. We were very pleased
to welcome Owen Buchan and Mrs Dawn HaiE-Thoma5 to the Charity in November, 2025. For many
years, we have sought the input of a younger person on the board of Trustees. We were therefore
delighted when Owen Buchan agreed to join us. Having originally attended an Island secondary school,
he is currently studying for a PhD. Hi5 perspective, particularly with the awarding of grant5, has been
invaluable. Through her years of public service on the Island, Mrs Dawn Haig-Thomas has highlighted
the poor level of literacy on the Island. Her understanding of the local education system ha5 been of
great as51Stance to the Charity.
A nine-month grazing agreement was signed in April, 2025 wtth a local smallholder with regard to the
Worsley Road fields. Our only expense concerning the land this year was the annual hedge cutting,
undertaken in December, 2025. We have maintained regular contact with the Isle of Wight Council'5
Rights of Way department, as well as our Land Agent5, Carter Jonas. who have continued the search for
alternative long term use5 for the fields as a whole or in parts.
After unacceptable delays by both M&G and St James, Wealth, we finally completed the transfer of our
funds to CCLA ICOIFI and WIM, receiving £600 in compensation from M&G. Our long-terrn deposit
with Lloyds Bank matured on 04.09.25 and the funds were evenly distributed between CCLA ICOIFI and
WIM. The time spent on this exercise has proved worthwhile a5 the total of our investments at
31.03.26 showed an increase of SJ4% on 2024125. Our income from these investments, however.
recorded a decrease of 7% £28,6551£30,732 20241251. Through discussions with both CCLA ICOIFI
and WIM, we have now ensured a fixed income so that the awarding of grants can be maximised each
year.
