## TRUSTEES REPORT

## **Report of the trustees for the year ended 31[st] March 2025**

The trustees present their report along with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31[st] March 2025. The financial statements comply with the charity’s trust deed, the Charities Act 1993 and the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities 2015.

## **Structure, governance and management**

The charity was established as a **Charitable Incorporated Organisation** on 14[th] May 2024. The charity’s objectives are:

1. Encouraging members and others to live ethical lives in accordance with the teachings of the Buddha;

2. Supporting ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Community and other duly ordained Buddhists, at

the discretion of the Council of the CIO;

3. Maintaining close communication with and working under the guidance of the Triratna Buddhist Order and

in co-operation with other groups with the same objects; and

4. Using applications of the Buddha's teaching to promote the health and well-being of all.

## **Report for the year**

During the year the charity ran a series of programmes offering teaching in Buddhism, the practice of meditation and the opportunity to develop friendship within a spiritual context.

Classes for regular participants with some existing knowledge of Buddhism were held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Frome, on Thursday evenings. The classes focused on deepening understanding of the basic tenets of Buddhism.

A series of introductory courses were run by a small team on Monday evenings, the course generally running for a six-week period. Course participants were invited to join the Thursday evening class once the introductory course had been delivered.

Study classes for women and for men were conducted throughout the year for those wishing to deepen their knowledge of Buddhism.

An opportunity to experience retreat conditions was provided at Adhisthana Retreat Centre along with retreatants from other Triratna Centres and Groups around the UK.

During the year, regular support was provided by Order Members in Frome for those preparing for ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order.

Many of our programmes were available to the general public. Some activities were designed for people with a deeper knowledge and interest in Buddhist practice.

## **Risk Management**

The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed. They are satisfied that there are systems in place to mitigate exposure to major risks. The Trustees have created a Risk Register which will be reviewed annually. The next review is due in September 2025.

## **Business and Financial Review**

The charity had income of £5,387 for the year (2023/24 £12,953) and administrative costs of £4,336 (2023/24 £2,018) giving rise to a surplus for the year of £1,050 (2023/24 £10,935).

Comparative figures for 2023/24 are drawn from the accounts of Frome Triratna Buddhist Community before registration as a charity.

## **Independent Examination of the Charity**

There was no independent examination of the financial records carried out for the year 2024/25 as the charity’s income was below the Charities Commission lower limit for the requirement for an independent examination.

## **Future Plans**

The Trustees plan to build on the successful year’s activities in Frome by offering:

- A programme of regular weekly classes in Buddhism and meditation

- A series of introductory courses

- Separate Buddhist study classes for Women and Men wishing to take their understanding deeper

- • Support for people preparing for ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order

- Retreats for 1 to 7 days
