Objectives and activities

The purposes of Tommys Voice, as set out in its governing document are the relief of:

(a) Those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial or other disadvantages.

(b) Any persons who are serving or who have served in the armed forces of the crown, including military cadet forces, or dependents.

Tommys Voice is a grant making charity that supports individuals and organisations, as well as supplying equipment/white goods to them to aid their welfare or organisation.

Tommys Voice also provides a platform to allow peer to peer support for Veterans and their families suffering the effects of ill mental health through their military service through guided conversation with fellow Veterans.

We also provide a signposting service for those in transition or struggling with the nuances of life outside the Armed Forces.

We work extensively with other organistions in the area in order to provide the best solution for the individual, we are proud of collaboration with others.

We also provide support with days out and have proved a very successful outdoor welfare experience for veterans.

The trustees confirm that they have referred to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives.

Achievements and performance

We are still actively looking for different funding sources in order to continue our work and be in a better financial position.

We have supported many Ex-Servicemen and women as well as their families with housing, benefits, homelessness, Mental Health support, and social isolation, including providing a Christmas Dinner for those who would not usually receive one. This extends to local care homes for our elderly veterans and schools raising awareness of remembrance amongst young children..

We are still looking to supply more in the future as funding allows, whilst we feel that events are beneficial to the charity: being in the public eye and highlighting the work we do. We are soon seeking to procure our own van for events now to aid in transportation of equipment and to further support the charity.

We are now looking to raise funding for our own venue to serve as a drop in centre for the many local veterans in the Kirklees area.

We have improved the lives of veterans taking part in events by providing drop in workshops and create a coffee morning for the Veterans and Beneficiaries of Kirklees. We provide physical workshops in order to get people involved such as crafting, information services, guest speakers especially around financial matters.

We have been instrumental in securing housing for homeless veterans through our work with the Kirklees Armed Forces Covenant Committee.

We have established a Riders Branch for those with Motorcycles and provide support to Veteran Funerals and Escorts as well as social days out twice a month.

We still pride ourselves on not getting paid through the charity as trustees.

We look forward to continue and still grow this charity.

Financial review

Tommys Voice has had a very slow start but continues to grow slowly. We have now established a few contacts in the local area to allow for future fundraising work. This will now include the use of new contactless donation boxes and the expansion of our collection tins in shops and public places of interest.

At the year end the charity had unrestricted funds totalling £35. During the period, income of £3618 was received, and there was expenditure totalling £3582

We currently hold no reserves. As a growing charity, it is important for us to begin setting funds aside in order to build financial resilience. Our target is to establish reserves of £5,000 by the end of 2026.

We recognise the going concern risk associated with reliance on adhoc fundraising activity; however, our income streams are expanding through increased supermarket collections and fundraising events as well as looking for future grant opportunities.

Our principal sources of income are face-to-face fundraising activities, including contactless donations and collection tins.

1. General information

The charity is a public benefit entity and is registered in England and Wales as a charity and a charitable incorporated organisation. The address of the principal office is 17 Station Street, Huddersfield, HD1 1LS

2.

Statement of compliance

These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102, 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland', the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and the Charities Act 2011.

3. Accounting policies

Basis of preparation

The financial statements have been prepared on the historical cost basis. The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity and rounded to the nearest £. The significant accounting policies consistently applied in the preparation of these financial statements are set out below.

Going concern

At 5 April 2025 the charity had no net current liabilities, however the charity had net assets of £35 overall. The trustees expect the charity to continue to receive regular donations and fundraising income. On this basis, there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue.

Judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty

The preparation of the financial statements did not require management to make any significant judgements, estimates or assumptions.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees to further any of the charity's purposes.

Incoming resources

All income is included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity, it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:

Resources expended

Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:

All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.

Tangible assets

Tangible assets are initially recorded at cost, and subsequently stated at cost less any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses.

6

3. Accounting policies (continued)

Depreciation

Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost or valuation of an asset, less its residual value, over the useful economic life of that asset as follows:

Fixtures and fittings - 20% reducing balance
Motor vehicles - 25% reducing balance
Computer equipment - 33% straight line

Stocks

Stocks are measured at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell. Cost includes all costs of purchase, costs of conversion and other costs incurred in bringing the stock to its present location and condition.

Financial instruments

A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the entity becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.

Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at the amount receivable or payable including any related transaction costs, unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where it is recognised at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.

Current assets and current liabilities are subsequently measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be paid or received and not discounted.

A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the entity becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.
