Grangewood Road Methodist Church is a part of the Nottingham Trent Valley Circuit of the Methodist Church, the Nottingham and Derby District of the Methodist Church and is part of the British Methodist Church Connexion. The governing body of Grangewood Methodist Church is the Church Council and all Church Council members of at least 18 years of age are also Trustees of the charity. Various committees report to the Church Council including: • Church Leadership Team • Finance and Property Committee • Worship Committee - Pastoral Committee. The Church also holds an Annual Church Meeting at which Church Council members (Trustees) are appointed. Grangewood Methodist Church, along with the wider Methodist Church it is part of, have policies to ensure that all risks are managed. This guidance sets out two key principles: - the organisation must have an identifiable benefit; - the benefit must be to the public or a section of the public. - The trustees consider that the activities it plans and carried out in fulfilling its mission and calling described above meet these public benefit requirements. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** In addition to the Minister appointed by the Methodist Church to have pastoral responsibility for Grangewood Road Methodist Church, the church engages, a Children’s and Family Worker who organises and develops activities for young people and families. Much of the work of the Church is carried out by volunteers from within the church congregation and community and there are over 50 such volunteers who are involved in assisting with all the activities of the church. March **2012** **TAR** 4 Section D Achievements and performance ## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** ||During the year from 1stSeptember 2024 to 31stAugust 2025 the
activities and achievements of the church have been as follows:
•
Worship services have been conducted, which are open to all,
every Sunday morning with extra services on other occasions.
Average Sunday morning congregations are about 90 people. A
Kids’ Church for young people also takes place at the same time
with typically 15 young people attending. These numbers are
increased compared to last year.
•
Eden Garden Community Church takes place on the first Sunday
of each month in the afternoon. Typically 60 people attend. This
is a new initiative to attract new people from the community who
have not previously attended church.
•
Young Wild and Free – a group for teenagers that meets once a
month on a Sunday afternoon. Typically about a dozen young
people attend.
•
In the summer holidays we have started opening the church up to
children, young people and their families for a space for people to
commune together. This seeks to create community and tackle
loneliness in parents and young people while out of their normal
routines.
•
A prayer group meets every week and the people attending our
church are invited to make prayer requests known.
•
Every Tuesday morning in term time the Saplings group meets.
This provides a social space for carers and toddlers from the local
community to meet.
•
A Ladies Fellowship meets once a fortnight, a Wednesday Coffee
morning meets every week, and a coffee morning meets every
Saturday. These groups attract members of the church
congregation and people from the local community.
•
Once a quarter we hold a Men’s Night and a Ladies Evening.
These are open to all and provide an opportunity for men and
women to meet together socially for food, conversation and
games or other activities.
•
The Wollaton Foodbank, part of Hope Nottingham and run by
volunteers from Grangewood and other local churches, is open at
the church every Friday morning.
•
Grangewood is part of ‘Wollaton Churches Together’ and hosts
ecumenical meetings and services throughout the year.
•
An Arts and Crafts Group, run by the church and open to all from
the local community, meets weekly.
•
Every Sunday there is a flower ministry and flowers from the
morning service are given to members of the congregation and
community who are suffering from illness or have other concerns.
•
Two Brownie packs and one Guide Company meet at the church
every week during term time.
•
Most Sunday afternoons the Holy Trinity Mar Thoma Church
meets on our premises. This church from the Nottingham area
does not have its own premises and we have welcomed them to
our church since 2019.
•
The premises are used almost every day by other organisations
from the community. These include: Ogando School of Dance,
Slimming World and First Class Learning Wollaton. A number of
local U3A groups meet on the premises regularly, including a
monthly U3A coffee morning.
•
The Wollaton Support Group of The Macular Society meets every
month.|| |---|---|---| March **2012** **TAR** 5 Section D Achievements and performance - The premises are regularly used on Saturday afternoons for children’s parties and other social events by members of the community. - A concert was organised with Nottingham Concert Band to raise money for the church and charities. - With all the activities taking place, several hundred people attend events on our premises each week. The church is developing activities to increase engagement with the local community. It held a Christmas Tree festival at the end of November. This was open to all in the community and various community groups provided Christmas Trees or stalls to promote their organisation. In July we organised a summer garden party, for the community. These events were also supported by local shops in the precinct next to the Church. The Church raises money for charities. It gives 5% of its income each year to Methodist, local and national charities, selected by the Trustees. In addition it supports Christian Aid and appeals made by the Disasters Emergency Committee. At Christmas we have collections for Action for Children. During the summer a sponsored run was arranged at a local running track to raise money for Framework (a local homelessness charity) and Christian Aid. Money raised from the Christmas Tree Festival was used to buy a defibrillator which is now installed outside the church. This is the only AED available 24 hours per day within about half a mile of the church. Grangewood Road Methodist Church is a thriving church with attendance at Sunday Services growing, particularly amongst younger people. Every year the church organises a group of young people to attend the Methodist Church’s 3Generate Event, a national gathering for young people. We typically take about 20 young people, one of the largest contingents from any church nationally. The Church developed a 5 year Mission Action Plan during the year and as part of this Project Thrive was initiated to support the growth in the church. A key focus of Project Thrive is to develop the church’s digital presence and the project requires funding of several new posts. Applications for grant funding from the Nottingham Trent Valley Circuit and Nottingham and Derby District of the Methodist Church are being put together to support this work. It is hoped that funds will be made available to commence the project in the next year. Grangewood Road Methodist Church is a welcoming church open to all and we are a member of the Inclusive Church Network – a network of churches which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. Grangewood Road Methodist Church is also concerned to care for and protect the environment and seeks to follow the Methodist Church’s aspiration to be net zero. We have bronze eco-church status. During the past year we have changed more of the lighting in the church to LED and have had an energy audit of the building undertaken.
