## **3. Structure, Governance and Management**

Wavers Sanctuary is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by its constitution. The charity is managed by its trustees, who are responsible for setting strategy, ensuring compliance with charity law and overseeing the financial and operational activities of the charity. Trustees meet as required to review activities, finances and future plans.

## **4. Objectives and Activities**

The charity’s objectives, as set out in its constitution, are to provide public benefit by relieving the suffering of animals in need of care and attention, with a particular focus on equines. This is achieved through the provision and maintenance of a rescue sanctuary and associated facilities for the reception, care and treatment of animals, and by helping to place animals into new homes where appropriate.

## **5. Public Benefit**

In setting the charity’s objectives and planning activities, the trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. The charity provides clear public benefit by improving the welfare of equines, supporting responsible ownership and reducing suffering among animals that might otherwise be neglected or abandoned.

## **6. Achievements and Performance**

During this first reporting period the charity has provided stable facilities, grazing, daily care and veterinary treatment for equines in need. Support has been provided both to animals requiring long-term sanctuary and those suitable for rehoming or retirement placements.

Key achievements during the period include:

- Successfully homing nine horses.

- Supporting eight individuals who were no longer able to care for their horses.

- Providing hay from the charity’s fields to support another charitable organisation.

The charity is supported by a small number of volunteers who assist with grooming and stable maintenance.

## **7. Financial Review**

The financial statements cover the period from 30 July 2024 to 1 April 2025. During this period the charity received total income of £6,094 and incurred total expenditure of £6,047, resulting in a small surplus for the period.

The principal source of income was voluntary donations. Expenditure was primarily incurred in the upkeep of horses and ponies, including feed, bedding and veterinary fees.

## **8. Reserves Policy**

As this is the charity’s first reporting period and funds are limited, the trustees have not yet established a formal reserves policy. Any surplus funds are retained to support the ongoing care and welfare of the animals. The trustees will review the need for a formal reserves policy as the charity develops.

## **9. Plans for Future Periods**

The trustees have identified the following priorities for the next reporting period:

- To establish a charity website.

- To raise funds through participation in a lottery scheme.

- To hold an open day to engage with the local community.

- To continue supporting as many equines as resources allow.

## **10. Trustees’ Declaration**

The trustees declare that they have approved this Trustees’ Annual Report and confirm that it has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 and the guidance issued by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
