## **1. Introduction**

This report summarises the activities and achievements of Namysto from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025. This period has been one of significant growth and adaptation, during which we have continued to provide essential support, community, and educational opportunities for refugees from Ukraine and their host families in Cambridge.

Our work has been made possible through the generous support of our funders, primarily Cambridgeshire Community Foundation and Cambridge City Council, and the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, staff, and trustees. We have focused on delivering high-impact projects that meet the evolving needs of our community, from educational support for children to well-being activities for teenagers and cultural events for all ages.

This report details our key activities, financial overview, and the measurable difference we have made to the lives of those we support. We remain committed to our mission of aiding integration, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering a strong, supportive community.

## **2. Activities and Achievements**

During this reporting period, Namysto successfully delivered a diverse portfolio of projects, funded by Cambridge City Council's United with Ukraine grant fund and Cambridgeshire Community Foundation.

It provides crucial educational continuity, social integration, and a sense of routine for children whose education has been disrupted by war. The curriculum is tailored to their needs, offering academic lessons alongside emotional and psychological support.

- **Achievement:** Successfully expanded from a single session to three full sessions for both primary and secondary levels. The school has become a cornerstone of the Ukrainian community in Cambridge, with demand continuing to grow.

## **B. Teen Voices Programme**

- **Funding Source:** Cambridge City Council United with Ukraine Grant (£4,552).

- **Activity:** A pilot series of four workshops designed to support the well-being and skill development of teenage refugees.

   1. **Financial Literacy:** An interactive session on saving, earning, and spending money wisely.

   2. **Drama Workshop:** Focusing on self-expression, storytelling, and building confidence through performance.

   3. **Clay Workshop:** A therapeutic and hands-on session for creative expression.

   4. **Art Workshop:** Custom painting on shopping bags to foster creativity and a sense of accomplishment.

- **Achievement:** Directly benefited 91 teenagers over the four sessions. The programme was supported by a clinical psychologist, providing vital mental health support. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting increased confidence, new skills, and enjoyment.

## **C. Cultural and Educational Excursions**

- **Funding Source:** Cambridge City Council United with Ukraine Grant (£5,000).

- **Activity:** Provision of three excursions instead of the planned two, thanks to successful negotiation of excellent coach rates.

   1. **Postal Museum, London (6th April 2024):** 53 beneficiaries explored British postal history and enjoyed a ride on the Mail Rail.

   2. **Oxford (25th May 2024):** 61 beneficiaries enjoyed a Ukrainian-language walking tour and a quiz.

   3. **Seven Sisters (30th June 2024):** 63 beneficiaries enjoyed a scenic picnic and walk along the white cliffs.

Page 3

- **Achievement:** Provided 177 occasions of benefit. These trips offered educational enrichment, a therapeutic escape from daily challenges, and strengthened social bonds within the community, reducing isolation.

## **D. Community Events**

- **Funding Source:** Cambridge City Council United with Ukraine Grant (£5,000).

- **Activity:** Delivery of two major cultural events.

   1. **Ukrainian Easter Celebration (4th May 2024):** A traditional celebration for 211 people featuring Pysanka egg painting workshops, Ukrainian games, gifts for children, and a feast of traditional foods.

   2. **Food Festival with Arab Cultural Theme (1st June 2024):** An event for 86 people celebrating International Children's Day. It included Arab-themed activities (henna painting, tile ornament making), face painting, and Ukrainian food, promoting intercultural learning and diversity.

- **Achievement:** Successfully delivered events that preserve Ukrainian traditions while fostering integration and understanding of other cultures within Cambridge's diverse community.

## **3. Financial Summary**

Namysto has maintained robust financial controls over this period. All grants received were fully spent on their allocated purposes, as evidenced by the detailed monitoring reports submitted to our funders.

- **Total Grant Income (from listed projects):** £14,552

   - Cambridge City Council: £14,552 (Teen Voices: £4,552; Excursions: £5,000; Events: £5,000)

   - Cambridgeshire Community Foundation: £7,000

- **Expenditure:** All funds were expended directly on project delivery, including staffing, venue hire, materials, transport, and food, as detailed in the attached reports.

- **Governance:** The trustees have reviewed the organisation's financial position and confirm that the funds have been used effectively and for their intended purposes.

## **4. Impact and Outcomes**

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

## Freehold investment property

Investment properties are measured initially at cost and subsequently at fair value at each balance sheet date and are not depreciated. All gains or losses are taken to the Statement of Financial Activities as they arise.

## Stocks

Stock is included at the lower of cost or net realisable value. Donated items of stock are recognised at fair value which is the amount the charity would have been willing to pay for the items on the open market.

## Trade and other debtors

Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.

## Cash and cash equivalents

Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash at bank and on hand, demand deposits with banks and other short-term highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less and bank overdrafts. In the statement of financial position, bank overdrafts are shown within borrowings or current liabilities. In the Statement of Cash Flows, cash and cash equivalents are shown net of bank overdrafts that are repayable on demand and form an integral part of the company's cash management.

Page 13

Namysto Notes to the Accounts

## Research and development

Expenditure on research and development is written off in the year in which it is incurred.

## Foreign currencies

Monetary assets and liabilities denominated in currencies other than the functional currency of the charity are translated at the rates of exchange prevailing at the end of the reporting period.

Transactions in currencies other than the functional currency of the charity are recorded at the rate of exchange on the date that the transaction occurred.

All exchange differences are are taken into account in arriving at net income/expenditure.

## Leased assets

Where the charity enters into a lease which entails taking substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of an asset, the lease is treated as a finance lease.

Leases which do not transfer substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership to charity are classified as operating leases.

Assets held under finance leases are initially recognised as assets of the charity at their fair value at the inception of the lease or, if lower, at the present value of the minimum lease payments. The

corresponding liability to the lessor is included in the balance sheet date as a finance lease obligation. Lease payments are apportioned between finance expenses and reduction of the lease obligation so as to achieve a constant rate of interest on the remaining balance of the liability. Finance expenses are recognised immediately, unless they are directly attributable to qualifying assets, in which case they are capitalised in accordance with the charity's policy on borrowing costs.

Assets held under finance leases are depreciated in the same way as owned assets.

Operating lease payments are recognised as an expense on a straight-line basis over the lease term. In the event that lease incentives are received to enter into operating leases, such incentives are recognised as a liability. The aggregate benefit of incentives is recognised as a reduction of rental expense on a straight-line basis.

## Pension costs

The charity operates a defined contribution plan for its employees. A defined contribution plan is a pension plan under which the company pays fixed contributions into a separate entity. Once the contributions have been paid the company has no further payments obligations. The contributions are recognised as expenses when they fall due. Amounts not paid are shown in accruals in the balance sheet. The assets of the plan are held separately from the company in independently administered funds.

## Receipt of donated goods, facilities and services

All donated goods, facilities and services received are recognised within incoming resources and expenditure at an estimate of the value to the charity.

## 2 Company status

The company is a private company limited by guarantee and consequently does not have share capital.
